Job Summary
The Registrar’s Office (RO) is a large, multi-unit, multi-site operation involved in the entire academic experience of Dalhousie students, through to convocation and beyond. We provide critical assistance in support of the academic missions of the institution through a wide range of functions and services, and safeguard the integrity of institutional policies and student records. Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Director of Enrolment Systems, the Business and Reporting Analyst is a key resource in business and reporting analysis, reporting development and improvements to meet institutional needs, and providing knowledge and support for institutional student data and information.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of reporting initiatives, projects and functionality related to student information reporting, the student information system (Banner) and institutional reporting system (Cognos)
- Lead in the creation and development of standard and complex student institutional reporting, official reporting and operational reporting for the Registrar’s Office, internal university stakeholders, and external stakeholders through the institutional reporting tool (i.e. Cognos)
- Undertake reporting and data analysis, and business and process analysis; connect with stakeholders, research appropriate solutions, develop supporting documentation (such as project timelines, technical/functional requirements and specifications, procedures, test plans, training documentation)
- Investigate new initiatives and best practices in the IT and Higher Education industries and make recommendations for reporting and/or process improvements to the Associate Registrar, Director of Student Information and Systems;
- Develop solutions to improve work processes and increase efficiency in operations in the Registrar’s Office.
- Serve as an expert on student information, data, data models, reporting, and the institutional reporting tool and its use for the purpose of effective and efficient reporting and business processes; Assist in ensuring the reporting needs of the Registrar’s Office and the greater University community are met as business processes are updated.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in IT, Computer Science or related field with computing/systems background (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience in business analysis and process improvement. Proven report development, and reporting systems and tools experience.
- Communication, teamwork, and organizational skills are essential.
- Must be highly motivated and able to exercise initiative, multitask, and effectively work in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Assets
- Demonstrated proficient use of Cognos report development and knowledge.
- Experience using BRIO .
- Experience in data warehouse environments, programming and SQL development skills.
- Student information systems and student data experience and knowledge, especially Ellucian Banner ERP.
- Project management and change management experience.
