Event Overview:
Women in AI will be launching its Halifax Chapter, and every woman is invited to this virtual launch event that introduces Women in AI to the Halifax community, engages attendees, and encourages participation in the Women in AI initiative.
Among other notable activities, the event will feature a Keynote Speaker, and a Panel of Women discussing “AI for Good: How Women Are Shaping a Better Future”.
Panel Discussion:
Our esteemed panel of industry experts will share insights, and discuss trends relating to the ethical use of AI, social impact projects, and how women are at the forefront of using AI for positive change, as well as best practices in leveraging AI.
Keynote Speaker:
Prof Rita Orji, PhD – Computer Science, University of Dalhousie
Prof Rita Orji, PhD is a Professor of Computer Science at Dalhousie University and a Member of Canada Research Chair. Named among the world’s top 2% of scientists by impact across all disciplines by Stanford University in 2021, 2022, and 2023, Prof. Rita Orji is a Canada Research Chair in Persuasive Technology and a Computer Science Professor at Dalhousie University, Canada where she directs the Persuasive Computing Lab. With over 200 peer-reviewed papers, Prof. Orji has won over 60 prestigious awards and recognitions nationally and internationally in recognition of her work in this area. She is one of the 150 Top Canadian Women in STEM, one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, a member of the Royal Society of Canada, a LinkedIn Top Voice, and a STEM Diversity Ambassador. She is also a mentor and an inspiration to many women, globally. She will be delivering the keynote speech for the Inaugural Launch.
Panelists
Jennifer LaPlante– Chief Growth and Investment Officer at Canada’s Ocean SuperCuster
Jennifer Laplante provides strategic growth and oversight of OSC’s investment portfolio. Jennifer’s career has been focused on data, analytics, and technology.
As the Executive Director of DeepSense, she worked with hundreds of companies to increase comprehension and adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning in Canada’s ocean sector. She holds an MBA and an MSc in Computing and Data Analytics. Jennifer was a member of the Public Awareness Working Group under the Government of Canada Advisory Council on AI and is a co-organizer of the Halifax Chapter of Women in Machine Learning and Data Science (WiMLDS), she will be speaking as a panelist during the WAI Halifax Inagural Launch.
Oge Nwachukwu– Founder/ CEO Pollard Consults Inc
Oge is an Organization Transformation practitioner with over a decade of experience, and also a Director for Professional Development, at IIBA Nova Scotia, and Host of the Future Forward Analyst Learning Series on LinkedIn.
Oge has led teams that supported organizations in diverse industries and domains to improve and digitize their business processes and implement various enterprise and line of business technology solutions. Her keen interest lies in supporting organizations to implement and adopt AI technologies to enhance organizational efficiencies and drive sustainable growth.
Oge will be speaking as a panelist during the WAI Halifax Inaugural launch.
