From iconic video game classics to local innovations, two new immersive exhibits in Nova Scotia promise an unforgettable exploration of gaming’s past, present and future, taking visitors through the evolution of an industry that has captivated hearts and minds worldwide.

On February 15, the Museum of Industry in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, unveiled two exciting new video game exhibits: “Game Changers,” from the Canada Science and Technology Museum, and “Ready to Play,” from the Museum of Industry itself. These two exhibits will be on display until June 23, allowing visitors to explore the evolution of gaming culture, from its early beginnings to its modern-day advancements. 

Ready to Play: Nova Scotia’s Gaming Evolution

“Ready to Play,” developed by Nova Scotia’s Museum of Industry, introduces the birth, evolution and contributions of the video game industry in Nova Scotia, which has grown from a few small startups in the early 2000s to more than 20 studios today! 

Besides showcasing the latest and greatest games from Nova Scotia, it’s also about celebrating the rich history and cultural impact of gaming in the region. From classic arcade cabinets to modern-day masterpieces, this exhibit pays homage to the enduring legacy of gaming in Nova Scotia and beyond.

Game Changers: Where Gaming Dreams Come Alive

‘Game Changers’ is an immersive journey through gaming history – a fascinating collection of 120 iconic games that have shaped the industry. See original concept art, explore level designs, and learn about the stories behind some of gaming’s most beloved titles. From the colorful worlds of Mario’s Mushroom Kingdom to Play the Tetris on a giant Game Boy, every aspect of gaming’s past comes to life in this captivating exhibition.

But it’s not just about watching – it’s about experiencing. Try your hand at some of history’s most popular games, from Pac-Man to Sumer Mario Bros. and Tetris, and engage with gaming experts as they share the creative process behind these masterpieces. Ever wondered how those memorable soundtracks are created? Prepare to be transported by the evolution of gaming audio, from simple beeps to symphonic scores.
