The Black Business Initiative (BBI) and the Sobey School of Business, in collaboration with the Halifax International Stanfield Airport, proudly present the second annual Dynamic Rural Business Series: Rural Black Businesses. Join us for an insightful session where we shine a spotlight on rural black businesses, featuring inspiring discussions with their owners and fostering a supportive network.

Our distinguished panelists include:

•Gem Roberts serves as both a project management/operations consultant and entrepreneur. She engages in diverse projects within the non-profit sector, from initiatives like the Future of Hockey Lab to her ownership of the newly founded non-profit Alma Matters Housing Association. Based in Lunenburg County, Gem is passionate about enhancing diversity and fostering equality through institutions actively promoting cultural disparity awareness.

•Dr. Ernest Asante Korankye was born in Ghana, West Africa, and has lived in Turo, Nova Scotia for more than a decade. With a background in Plant Biology from Dalhousie University, he is the founder and CEO of Asante Logistic Group Inc., transforming the logistics industry in Atlantic Canada. His commitment to the region’s growth extends to Verfa Agri-food Innovations Inc., a futuristic indoor vertical farming startup, where he serves as Co-Founder, President & CEO.

•Cedric Smiley has more than 40 years of experience in retail, marketing, promotion, and business product development. His track record includes successfully acquiring marketing and professional contracts with high-profile clients, showcasing strong networking relationships. Cedric’s extensive experience in the Phoenix, Arizona market, coupled with his interpersonal and organizational skills, reflects his dedication to excellence.
