Tell us about yourself!
Alex was born and raised in Bedford, Nova Scotia, and received an honours degree in English Literature from Mount Saint Vincent University. She has a background in academic publishing, with expertise in sales and marketing. Previously, Alex worked closely with academic institutions in Atlantic Canada to incorporate digital learning tools. Her passion for innovation and education inspired her to pursue a career in the tech sector. She is thrilled to be a part of the Skills for Hire program!
What excites you the most about the tech sector in Nova Scotia? Is there an area that interests you the most?
Apart from the education aspect, I am interested in accessibility in the tech sector. Many people involved in the tech industry, and this team, are about people and relationship building rather than backend developing and hard technical skills. There can be a bit of misunderstanding and intimidation around the tech sector, even technology in general, but DNS seems to have accessibility at its core and I’m so excited to be a part of that. Pro-people and pro-community!
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
I love a relaxed adventure day. If the weather is nice, I will take a drive to Wolfville or Lunenburg, grab a coffee, and take my time wandering through the streets and shops!
What’s something you’re passionate about that might surprise us?
I love to dance! I took ballet, tap, and jazz as a little kid, and a few years ago I took up classes again as an adult. It was pretty intimidating at first, but dance classes are so much fun! Halifax has such a cool dance community, and there are so many options for different classes at different studios.
What three items you cannot live without (excluding food, water etc-)?
Number one would be my phone–phone addiction is real! Not so much for social media, I use my phone for looking up dates, definitions, fact checking everything all day. Coming in at two and three would be my emotional support water bottle, and lip balm.
