‘We’re not slowing down:’ How Rafflebox Technologies’ growth is strengthening Canadian communities

March 13, 2023

Charities are integral to local communities, and their ability to thrive financially has never been easier thanks to one Nova Scotian company.

Rafflebox Technologies is an online platform that empowers charities to run fundraiser raffles both in-person and online. With no upfront costs, Rafflebox provides thousands of charities with a zero-risk opportunity to raise funds for their important causes.

“We wanted to create a secure platform so charities, even ones without a website, have a way to fundraise online with raffles,” said Simon Cusack, Chief Operating Officer. “Our platform makes selling tickets and cashing out easy, striving to reduce the administrative burden on charities.”

“Online raffles are an effective way to create long-term relationships with donors. There’s also an element of chance and fun which gets people talking.”

Online raffles also have a wider reach, giving charities a chance to sell raffle tickets across the province through link sharing on social media, in emails, and more. Last year, after four years in full-scale business operations, the company reached a major milestone of raising $100 million for its charity partners.

As of March 2023, that total has jumped to $143 million.

“We’ve got our eyes set on $250 million now, and we’re not slowing down,” said Cusack.

“Growth for us means more fundraising dollars for charities and at the end of the day, that’s what we want to see!”

With the nature of their work, greater success for Rafflebox means greater opportunities for those in need. One of Rafflebox’s huge success stories is its work with the Nova Scotia Firefighter Department. Their province-wide 50/50 raffle raises jackpots surpassing $400,000, making it the largest weekly 50/50 in Canada. Proceeds have allowed for increased investment in tools, training, and equipment for firefighters, which they say have been instrumental in keeping local communities safe.

Another long-term charity partner is Food Depot New Brunswick. The Rafflebox platform makes it easier for the organization to run weekly raffles in person and online, which helps to support 22,000 monthly visits to food banks in New Brunswick.

As Rafflebox’s footprint continues to grow here in Canada, the company now has their sights set on the United States. This year, the team is focused on breaking into that market while also refining their products to help their charity partners reach new fundraising milestones. They’re also working to grow their in-venue sales options for sports teams, festivals, and events.

“Working at Rafflebox is rewarding because when we develop a new product or learn new skills, it means our charity partners are directly benefiting and raising more money for their great causes,” says Cusack.

“We know it’s cliché, but we really do love what we do!”
