55 Qualified Entry-Level Talent Enter the Tech Sector – Congratulations Graduates!

September 26, 2022

After 25 weeks of hard work and dedication, we’re thrilled to announce that 55 Get Into IT graduates have officially completed the program, and are entering the tech ecosystem! Thirty-one burgeoning cybersecurity analysts and 24 IT support specialists are ready to take the next steps in their professional journey, and we couldn’t be more excited to see how they move forward in their careers.

Over the course of the program learners not only completed their technical content, but also participated in a variety of professional development sessions as well. These ranged from understanding the hiring process to perfecting their networking skills. These integral skills left participants with a well rounded approach to beginning their job search. Our valued community partners Dr. Helen Ofosu, Opportunity Place and NS Works all provided invaluable information and training over the course of the program – a special thank you to them!

While many participants will now be looking for entry level positions, some have already seen success. Tao He recently shared with us that he was successful in his search for a position within the IT sector, and now works as an IT specialist.

“This course is very helpful for my application. In terms of technology, SQL, database, firewall, and network security were all listed on the job post. The classes in the career workshop also made me more confident in cover letter, resume, and non-technical questions during interviews.”

Past program participant Dalwinder Singh stays in touch, offering up his expertise to current students as a guest speaker. We sat down with him to discuss how the program benefited him and how his career has progressed since having participated in Get Into IT. After graduating from the program Dalwinder successfully joined the team at RBC as a data lineage and control analyst.

Throughout the program Digital Nova Scotia has worked to support participants in any way possible, ensuring that they had all the tools needed to succeed. In collaboration with Computers for Schools NS, Get Into IT was able to help some participants access laptops, allowing easier access to their online classes. These participants were able to keep their new computers and they will surely benefit from having them long after the program has ended.

All in all, the Get Into IT program has seen so much up and coming talent. We are happy to be fueling the entry level talent pool for the Nova Scotia tech sector. Thank you to our partners at the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration for funding this important program.

Should you have any questions or want to connect to any of the graduated participants, our project manager Judith Dardon would love to hear from you!
