Please give a warm welcome to Laura Jones, a co-op student from Dalhousie University who will be joining Digital Nova Scotia this fall as our Communications Coordinator!
Tell us about yourself!
I am currently in my third year studying at Dalhousie University. I am completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Marketing with a certificate in Entrepreneurship. I am thrilled to begin developing my knowledge and skills during my Co-op semester here at Digital Nova Scotia. I am an outgoing person who enjoys meeting new people, travelling (if only it were possible right now), and finding new and exciting hobbies. My favourite pastime is singing and playing instruments. I started to learn guitar this year and have loved it so far. Throughout my professional career, I have been lucky enough to secure Co-op positions in the tech industry of Nova Scotia.
The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry? Is there a particular area in tech that excites you the most?
Although I have had recent experience in the tech industry, there are always new things to learn. I am excited to focus on each of our members here at DNS and gain an understanding of the incredible work that is being produced in Nova Scotia.
What do you love most about your program at University?
I love the Commerce Co-op program at Dalhousie because I can apply what I have learned in my courses to various job placements. This program allows me to explore countless options for my career path and gain industry experience before graduating.
What’s something you’re passionate about that might surprise us?
I am a very passionate songwriter. I have been singing and playing instruments since I could talk, and I absolutely love making music. If I have any free time at home, you will find me singing at my piano and filling up notebooks with lyrics.
If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
This is a tough one, so many places to see! I would have to go with either Costa Rica or Indonesia. Just before Covid-19 hit, I was planning to participate in an exchange program to Costa Rica. It would be amazing to experience that trip once it is possible again. Indonesia is on my bucket list as well (particularly Bali). There are so many breathtaking landmarks to see!
