Please give a warm welcome to Rebecca Raftus, a co-op student from Saint Mary’s University who will be joining Digital Nova Scotia this summer as our Communications Coordinator!
Tell us about yourself!
I am a fourth-year student at Saint Mary’s University. I’m currently completing my program with a double major in Marketing and Management as well as completing my final work term here at DNS! I’m a very outgoing person who loves to work out and spend time with my family and friends. Throughout my professional career, I have worked many different jobs including several marketing agencies. I have a love for learning and can’t wait to experience all that the non-profit sector has to offer.
Can you tell us something about yourself that isn’t in your bio?
I am an avid Spinco member, I love the community and energy that they have created. Spin is one of my favorite workouts and I believe that riding at Spinco has definitely changed my life for the better!! PS. I may have a slight shopping problem, but having a full closet doesn’t hurt anyone right…
What do you love most about your program at university?
The part that I love the most about my program at SMU is definitely the outreach it provides. Being a part of the Sobeys School of Business has offered me many opportunities to grow professionally and personally. The network of fellow students and mentors is astonishing, I have been able to meet many different individuals from all different backgrounds. Having access to this type of network allows me to socialize and hear first-hand experiences from others that are knowledgeable in their field.
The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry?
The tech industry has so much to offer but foremost I’m most excited to work in a sector that has an amazing work culture and individuals who love what they do.
What do you hope to accomplish while you’re with us?
I hope to expand my knowledge of the tech industry and to learn firsthand from others that are experts in the field. I also hope to expand my network and create long-lasting relationships that continue along my career.
What’s something you’re really interested in that might surprise us?
I am a crime documentary fanatic! I love watching and following crime-related cases whether it be mob-related or serial killer documentaries you will definitely catch me reading/watching it. Growing up I always wanted to be a detective and enjoyed solving mysteries.
If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
Italy hands down! I love everything there is about Italy, the food, the culture and especially the wine. Italy is definitely a place I could visit for a while and never get bored!! Once Covid-19 is over this will be the first vacation spot for me.
