We are thrilled to welcome our new Project Coordinator, Nick Usher-Jones to the team! Nick is a co-op student from Dalhousie University joining us for the fall term.
Tell us about yourself.
I am in my third year at Dalhousie working towards a Commerce degree majoring in Marketing. I grew up in Toronto Ontario. In the past I have worked as a ski instructor, a guest server at a garden center, an accounting clerk at a BMW dealership, and as a retail employee of a uniform shop. Things that I enjoy doing besides work include skiing, going to the gym, and hanging out with friends. I am an outgoing, creative, and always curious to learn new things.
Nick, can you tell us something about yourself that isn’t in your bio?
I am very passionate about hockey; I enjoy playing and watching it. I unfortunately cheer for a team that doesn’t do so well (Toronto Maple Leafs). I have been watching hockey for over 10 years now and it has been one of my favorite evening activities. I also used to play hockey when I was in high school, however I hung up my skates a couple years ago.
What do you love most about your program at university?
The Co-op program is definitely my favorite part about the Commerce program at Dalhousie. I have really enjoyed gaining very quality work experience and meeting a lot of new people along the way. There is also a lot of assistance from the staff at Dalhousie on how to build a resume and cover letter. After I graduate, I will have a lot of work experience, which I feel is great preparation for entering the real world. The Co-op program at Dalhousie was a big factor when it came to my decision in choosing Dalhousie. My expectations for the Co-op program have gone above and beyond for me!
The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry?
Tech is something that I have always been interested in, especially with following the news and seeing these incredible technology changes that keep improving. I am looking forward to gaining a lot of experience from working in the tech industry and coming out with an improved knowledge about tech. I am very excited to become a part of the tech industry for the next 3 months.
So, it’s your first day, what do you hope to accomplish while you’re with us?
I hope to become a valuable asset to Digital Nova Scotia, and to be able to help further improve the image for Digital Nova Scotia.
What’s something you’re really interested in that might surprise us?
I am a big dog person! I have had dogs for 11 years of my life and I always love being around them. I currently have a Mini Australian Sheppard who is a year old and I have a mini golden doodle who is 11 years old! I love talking them for long walks and running around with them in my backyard!
If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
I think if I had to pick anywhere to go, I would pick Vegas. I have always wanted to travel to a unique place like Vegas. I would also like to travel to a place where I have a lot to do! Vegas has a new hockey team for me to watch, a lot of fancy restaurants, and several shows as well.
