At Digital Nova Scotia, we’re advocates of hands-on learning and real-life experiences. This year, we had our first placement from ISANS (the wonderful Maria), a web-development summer student (the amazing Laura), and now we are welcoming our new co-op student, Carson to the team!
Originally from a small town in rural PEI, Carson is currently in his fourth and final year at Mount Saint Vincent University, where he is studying Public Relations. Before enrolling at the Mount, Carson attended Holland College for two years and completed the Journalism program. When he isn’t in a classroom, Carson enjoys hanging out with friends, going to the gym, listening to music, cooking, watching sports, and spending time with his family during his free time. Carson will be joining us for four months as our Communications Coordinator, so if you see him at events, please say hello!
We asked Carson a few quick questions so that we could all get to know him a little better:
Carson, can you tell us something about yourself that isn’t in your bio?
Something else that I am really interested during my free time is to watch movies. If I’m home alone doing nothing, I’m more than likely watching a movie on Netflix or Crave. My three desert island movies (aka movies that I have with me on a desert island and have to re-watch forever) are Dazed and Confused, Pulp Fiction, Step Brothers.
You’re graduating next year from the Mount PR Program, what do you love most about your program?
My favourite aspect of the Mount’s PR Program is the real-life training and experience you get with the three co-op placements that students are required to fulfill. From these placements, I have gotten first-hand experiences in a wide variety of PR work that I would not have gotten exposed too otherwise.
The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry?
The thing I’m most looking forward to is being introduced and exposed to new tech companies in the province, that are trying to use their tech to help people and to make this province better for everyone.
So, it’s your first day, what do you hope to accomplish while you’re with us?
During my four-month placement with Digital Nova Scotia, I’m looking to be exposed to a number of different and new projects that I have not had experience with before, learning new PR tactics and strategies, gaining a few new skills that will be beneficial for my future career and having some fun.
What’s something you’re really interested in that might surprise us?
A weird passion of mine is that I’m absolutely obsessed with pizza, and I’m determined in finding the best slice of pizza in Halifax. I’ve come close, but I don’t think I’ve found Halifax’s Holy Grail slice yet, unfortunately, but I’m always up for suggestions.
If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
That’s tough, but I think if I could only choose one place, it’d have to be Spain. I’ve never been, but from everything I have heard and read, it seems absolutely beautiful. Plus, I heard that it never gets colder than 15 degrees, which would be very nice.
