Press Release: Young Women In Truro Explore Careers In Technologies

May 1, 2018

Truro, Nova Scotia – Wednesday, May 2, 2018

Seventy-five young women in grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 from the the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education, Strait Regional Centre for Education and Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial will be attending Skilled Futures for Women, presented by Skills Canada – Nova Scotia (SCNS) on Wednesday, May 2, at the NSCC Truro Campus in Truro.

Skilled Futures for Women is a one-day event that offers female students the opportunity to discover and explore skilled trade and technology career options by participating in mentor discussions and hands-on workshops, ranging from 2D character animation to game development.

“Women continue to be under-represented in Nova Scotia’s technology and skilled trade industries. Our Skilled Futures series is an interactive stepping stone for students as they contemplate their career and training options. This event could potentially reveal exciting career decisions for participants as they discover occupations they may not have considered before,” said Robin Lorway, Executive Director of SCNS.

Skilled Futures for Women is one in a series of one-day career exploration events taking place from November to May at locations across the province. This event would not be possible without the generous support of WISE Atlantic, the Nova Scotia Community College and the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency.

Skills Canada – Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for Nova Scotian youth to explore skilled trades and technologies, discover their passions, and strive for excellence.
