Dartmouth, Nova Scotia – Friday, April 6, 2018

This Friday, the NSCC Ivany Campus will play host to the 20th Annual Nova Scotia Skills Competition. Eighteen competitions will take place including 3D game art, architectural technology & design, bricklaying, carpentry, electrical installations. graphic design, industrial mechanic millwright, IT office software applications, job search, job skill, demonstration, mechanical CADD, mechatronics, photography (secondary and post-secondary level), public speaking, refrigeration and air conditioning, mobile robotics, and video production.

Throughout March and April, close to 300 students and apprentices compete in over 40 skilled trades and technologies to improve their skills and gain recognition from some of industry’s best.

“For twenty years, industry representatives, educators and youth with a passion for skilled trades and technologies look forward to the Nova Scotia Skills Competition. Skilled tradespeople and technologists are in demand across the province,” says Robin Lorway, Executive Director, SCNS. “This event celebrates some of the talented young people entering these fields.”

Bronze, silver and gold medals will be awarded in each competition area. Most gold medalists then have the opportunity to advance to the Skills Canada National Competition, taking place this June in Edmonton, Alberta.

In addition to the Nova Scotia Skills Competition and Career Showcase, the NSCC Technology Showcase will also take place where students employ Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability to help shape their future – and Nova Scotia’s. See students demonstrate their work, meet with instructors and learn more about a wide range of programs.

The Nova Scotia Skills Competition and Career Showcase would not be made possible without the generous support of the Nova Scotia Community College, Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, Department of Labour and Advanced Education (Post-Secondary Disability Services), and Employment and Social Development Canada.

Skills Canada – Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for Nova Scotian youth to explore skilled trades and technologies, discover their passions, and strive for excellence.
