Skills For Hire Atlantic is a digital skills and career-building training program designed to help fill the need for qualified entry-level talent in the tech sector across Atlantic Canada. The program has been developed through a partnership between Digital Nova Scotia and is funded by the Government of Canada’s Adult Learning, Literacy and Essential Skills Program. Designed for individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, or looking to enhance their career prospects, the program focuses on building foundational knowledge in key digital areas: data analytics and cybersecurity. As the digital economy continues to reshape the workforce, Skills for Hire Atlantic equips participants with the tools and confidence to explore new career paths, complement non-technical skill sets, and bridge the digital divide, rather than promising direct employment outcomes. Over the course of five years, Skills For Hire Atlantic will train over 2,500 individuals on in-demand, entry-level positions to become active members of the Atlantic tech ecosystem, working to fill the existing gaps in local talent.

Skills for Hire Atlantic – Accelerated Foundations Edition is designed for individuals who want to explore careers in Cybersecurity or Data Analytics, build foundational digital skills, and gain confidence in navigating the tech industry. This program is ideal for you if you: ✅ Are interested in exploring a career in Cybersecurity or Data Analytics. ✅ Are new to the field, including those from non-technical backgrounds. ✅ Are considering a career transition or looking to develop new digital skills. ✅ Can commit approximately 12–15 hours per week over five weeks. ✅ Are a self-motivated learner comfortable with online, self-paced learning and live sessions. ✅ Want to build foundational technical knowledge and explore future career opportunities. This program may not be the right fit if you: ❌ Already have advanced professional experience in Cybersecurity or Data Analytics. ❌ Are looking for advanced or highly specialized technical training. ❌ Cannot commit consistent time each week to the accelerated learning schedule. ❌ Are seeking a program that guarantees employment or direct job placement.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must: - Be 18 years of age or older. - Reside in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador. - Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Applicants without these qualifications may still be eligible with a referral from a community organization. - No previous technical experience is required. The program is completely free for eligible participants and delivered fully online.

How It Works

Skills for Hire Atlantic – Accelerated Foundations Edition combines self-paced learning with live instructional support and career-development activities to help you build confidence and explore opportunities in the digital economy.

1. Choose Your Learning Path

Select either Cybersecurity or Data Analytics, based on your interests and career goals. Both streams are designed for beginners, with no previous technical experience required

2. Learn at Your Own Pace

Access structured online modules, learning resources, quizzes, and assignments designed to introduce foundational technical concepts. Plan to dedicate approximately 12–15 hours per week throughout the five-week program.

3. Get Support from Teaching Assistants

Participate in weekly live sessions led by experienced Teaching Assistants (TAs). These sessions provide opportunities to reinforce key concepts, ask questions, and receive guidance as you progress through the curriculum.

4. Explore Career Opportunities

Build essential career-development skills through workshops and industry awareness activities. Explore digital career pathways, identify transferable skills, and learn how to strengthen your resume and LinkedIn profile.

5. Complete the Program and Earn Your Certificate

Demonstrate your learning through quizzes, assignments, and program activities. Participants who successfully complete the requirements and achieve a minimum overall score of 70% will receive a Certificate of Completion.
