Digital Nova Scotia President and CEO Receives National WCT Award

WCT Annual Awards recognizes “Wavemakers” in Communications and Technology

HALIFAX, April 23, 2015 – Ulrike Bahr-Gedalia, President and CEO of Digital Nova Scotia (DNS), was recognized during an awards ceremony yesterday in Ottawa as a recipient of the national Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) Annual Awards in the category of “Innovator.” Bahr-Gedalia is one of fifteen women who were awarded for their significant efforts to advance women’s representation and achievements in Canada’s information, communications, and technology (ICT) sector.

“It was a humbling experience to be acknowledged and included in the company of such outstanding leaders from across the country. As I mentioned in my speech during the ceremony, I’m proud of our accomplishments as leaders and game-changers to date, but I think the journey has only just begun. I am committed to continuing my drive for positive change and will live up to the challenge to consistently lead by example,” says Ulrike Bahr-Gedalia, President and CEO, DNS.

Bahr-Gedalia encouraged the crowd to commit with her to become even more courageous, innovative, and resilient leaders and role models, and concluded her speech with a call to action: “we don’t have to be told to be bold!”

The WCT Annual Awards recognize the leadership and success of women who champion the recruitment and retention efforts of women in ICT. According to WCT, the Awards program continues to grow significantly each year with an increase in the number of high-calibre candidates.

“In the technology sector it’s critical to showcase women’s success and leadership to recruit and retain women in ICT. Studies undertaken by credible organizations like Catalyst still show that despite comparable education, women continue to trail men at every stage of their careers,” notes Joanne Stanley, Executive Director of WCT.

The prestigious WCT Annual Awards Ceremony Gala was held yesterday evening at Ottawa’s Fairmont Chateau Laurier. The event was sold-out with over 450 attendees.
