SUMMARY:From Data to Insight: Practical Statistical Modeling
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop introduces participants to statistical modeling in R\, one of the most widely used languages for statistical computing and data analysis. Statistical models are fundamental tools for understanding relationships in data\, supporting evidence-based decision-making\, and building reliable analytics and AI workflows. \nThe workshop will guide participants through the key steps of a typical statistical analysis process: exploring data\, building statistical models\, interpreting model results\, and communicating findings through clear visualizations. Participants will learn how to implement basic statistical models in R and create informative graphs to better understand and present their results. \nThe session is divided into two parts. The first session focuses on the conceptual foundations of statistical modeling\, including model assumptions\, interpretation\, and how statistical thinking supports reliable analysis. The second session focuses on hands-on coding in R\, where participants will build models\, generate visualizations\, and organize their analysis into a reproducible statistical report using R Markdown. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have practical experience using R to perform statistical analysis and will produce a structured analytical report that integrates code\, results\, visualizations\, and interpretation. This workflow helps ensure analyses are transparent\, reproducible\, and easy to communicate to collaborators and stakeholders. \n3 Key Takeaways \n\nUnderstand the importance of statistical modeling in data analysis\nGain hands-on experience building models and visualizations in R\nLearn how to create a reproducible statistical report using R Markdown\n\nMeet Your Presenter – Joy Liu \nI’m a data-driven researcher with experience turning complex datasets into clear\, accurate insights using R\, SQL\, and advanced analytical tools. \nI enjoy optimizing statistical models\, improving data quality\, and communicating technical information in a way that bridges the gap between professionals and customers. \nI’m passionate about using strong research skills\, clear technical writing\, and continuous learning in AI-supported innovation to help companies make better\, more informed decisions.

SUMMARY:From Survival to Sustainability with Matt Thomson from Placemaking 4G
DESCRIPTION:High-growth environments demand a lot from founders and leadership teams. The pace of innovation\, constant decision-making\, and pressure to perform can push even the most capable leaders into cycles of stress\, overextension\, and burnout. But sustainable leadership isn’t about working harder\, it’s about building the habits\, boundaries\, and self-awareness that allow both leaders and businesses to thrive over the long term. \nThis refreshingly honest and practical session explores the human side of entrepreneurship: the energy\, values\, and rhythms that quietly shape leadership capacity and business performance. Through real-world insights and practical frameworks\, we’ll examine how stress\, decision fatigue\, and people-pleasing show up in leadership—and how addressing them can directly impact clarity\, profitability\, and long-term resilience. \nTailored for the fast-moving tech community\, this workshop meets founders where they are—ambitious\, innovative\, and often stretched thin—and provides practical tools to build endurance without burnout. Participants will learn strategies to navigate high-stakes environments more sustainably while strengthening both their personal leadership and the health of their business. \nSession Takeaways: \n\nPractical strategies for navigating stress\, decision fatigue\, and people-pleasing;\nA framework for self-leadership in high-growth\, high-pressure environments and;\nClarity on the habits and structures that sustain high performance over time.\n\nMeet Your Presenter \nMatt Thomson is a TEDx speaker\, author\, and co-founder of Placemaking 4G (P4G)\, an award-winning firm helping organizations rethink how they hire and support their people. Matt shares his own journey of burnout and recovery to inspire others to slow down and embrace life’s pauses. He has been featured in the MARS Discovery District’s Portraits of Innovation campaign\, is a member of the Wallace McCain Institute’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program (ELP ’16)\, hosted a podcast with listeners in dozens of countries and is proud to have co-founded the “Mounties for Mental Health” initiative supporting suicide awareness and prevention at Mount Allison University.
