We’re heading into the warmer months with a new face, as we welcome our new team member, Kyle Armstrong!
Joining us as our Communications Coordinator for four months, Kyle is completing his third co-op placement as part of his Bachelor of Commerce. Kyle is a proud Haligonian and is currently in his third year of Commerce at Dalhousie University. Kyle completed his previous co-op work placements at Swain Chartered Professional Accountants Inc. and Association Solutions Ltd. He has also worked part-time at Scotiabank during his studies. Although Kyle has chosen to major in accounting, he looks forward to working with Digital Nova Scotia and learning about the growing technology sector in our province. Kyle has a love for the outdoors and can be found throwing a frisbee on the Commons, enjoying the waves at Lawrencetown Beach or boating on Porters Lake when he is not in the office or studying.
We asked Kyle a few quick questions so that we could all get to know him a little better:
Kyle, can you tell us something about yourself that isn’t in your bio?
I went skydiving at the beginning of my second year of university with my roommates and made the mistake of sending the video to my mother afterwards… she wouldn’t answer any of my texts or calls for 3 weeks because she was so upset with me.
What do you love most about your program at university?
What I love most about the Commerce program at Dalhousie is how personable the faculty members are. It is very special that I am able to stop and have a quick conversation with a former professor in the Rowe building on my way to a lecture.
The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry?
Having lived in Halifax for my whole life, I have always seen the potential that the city has, and I am looking forward to working with people that see that same potential and hearing their ideas on how we can maintain growth.
So, it’s your first day, what do you hope to accomplish while you’re with us?
As I love both Nova Scotia & technology, I am hoping to serve as a valuable ‘fresh set of eyes’ throughout the duration of my time with Digital Nova Scotia and learn enough to give meaningful insights and suggestions.
What’s something you’re really interested in that might surprise us?
Psychology! I have chosen to further my education in business; however, I am also very interested in psychology and could easily see myself studying it someday down the road.
If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
Australia! After my second co-op term, I went on a 14-day tour of the Greek Islands with tourists from all over the world and it just so happened that the majority of the tourists on my specific trip were from Australia. I cherish the bonds that I established with my Australian friends and would love to visit their country after hearing so many great things!
