We’re thrilled to, once again, shine a spotlight on the outstanding learners in our Cybersecurity & Data Analytics cohort of the Skills For Hire Atlantic program! Each month, we celebrate students who go above and beyond—demonstrating curiosity, commitment, and a passion for growing their skills in this high-demand field!

Hamza Rasool – Cybersecurity Stream

Hamza Rasool is a Master of Engineering student specializing in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. With several years of experience in IT systems, he has always been fascinated by the intersection of engineering and cybersecurity. When he moved to Canada, Hamza knew he wanted to grow in a field that makes a real difference, and cybersecurity felt like the perfect path. The Skills for Hire Atlantic program gave him the structure, support, and community he was looking for, and he has embraced the journey with enthusiasm.

“What I’m enjoying most is how practical and engaging the learning experience has been,” Hamza shares. “The content is hands-on and designed to prepare us for real-world roles, and the live sessions make it easy to stay motivated and connected. I also really appreciate how supportive the community is—it feels like everyone wants to see each other grow.”

Of all the courses so far, the cryptography module has been Hamza’s favourite. Learning how encryption protects the digital world gave him a new appreciation for the systems that keep data secure. “Understanding how algorithms like AES and RSA work under the hood was fascinating,” he says. “Realizing that behind every secure connection is a system of logic and math made me even more eager to dive deeper into cybersecurity.”

For Hamza, the real spark came when he realized that even the best-engineered systems can fail without proper protection. He sees cybersecurity not just as a technical field, but as a form of digital responsibility—safeguarding the trust people place in technology every day. That sense of purpose is what keeps him motivated to learn and grow.

Looking ahead, Hamza’s dream job is to work in research and development focused on quantum encryption and quantum security. With the rapid advancement of quantum computing, he believes we are on the verge of a major shift in how we protect digital information. “Being part of that frontier—helping design the future of secure communication in a post-quantum world—would be both exciting and deeply meaningful,” he says.

Bayan Alomari – Cybersecurity Stream

Bayan has a background in tech support and administration and has always been interested in technology. Recently, she decided to expand her skills and focus on cybersecurity, a field she sees as both important and full of opportunity. Joining the Skills for Hire Atlantic program has given her the chance to gain practical knowledge, build confidence, and work toward her goal of building a career in cybersecurity.

“I like the program because I’m learning new things about cybersecurity, and the lessons are clear and easy to follow,” Bayan shares. “I also enjoy the support from the instructors and the way they explain everything step by step.”

Her favourite course so far has been Cybersecurity Fundamentals, which she found both interesting and accessible. Learning the basics in a simple, structured way has given her a strong foundation to build on as she continues through the program.

Bayan’s interest in cybersecurity comes from a desire to understand how to protect data and stay safe online. With technology advancing so quickly, she believes cybersecurity is a critical and exciting field with endless opportunities to grow and learn. That motivation has guided her learning and reinforced her career goals.

Her dream job is to work as a Cybersecurity Analyst, a role where she can solve problems, keep information safe, and continue building her skills. “I enjoy solving problems, learning new skills, and helping keep information safe,” she says. “This career also offers many opportunities to grow and build a strong future.”

Samuel White – Cybersecurity Stream

Samuel White holds a Computer Science degree from the University of New Brunswick and has over three years of experience in Quality Assurance. After starting his career in IT, he decided to take a bold step toward a personal project, pursuing content creation on Twitch full-time. While that chapter didn’t work out as planned, Samuel is proud of the risk he took and the lessons he gained from the experience. Today, he works in sales to strengthen his interpersonal and communication skills, and he has returned to focus on expanding his technical expertise through cybersecurity.

What Samuel has enjoyed most about Skills for Hire Atlantic is the sense of community. “There are over a hundred students from very diverse backgrounds all here to learn more about Cybersecurity and Data Analytics,” he says. “Being surrounded by a community of students eager to learn has been very rewarding and motivating for me. It encourages me to stay on top of my learning and help others that are stuck.” He also appreciates the consistent support of the Skills for Hire Atlantic team in answering questions and guiding learners along the way.

His favourite course so far has been Python 3 Fundamentals on Pluralsight. “I have wanted to learn Python for so long and this course finally opened the door for me to the basics,” Samuel explains. The examples and demos gave him a strong foundation to build upon, and coding along with the lessons has sparked his interest in continuing to develop his programming skills.

Samuel’s interest in cybersecurity comes from the growing importance of protecting systems and data in today’s world. With cyber attacks on the rise, he is motivated to be part of the solution. “Learning about how and why cyber attacks happen, and trying to stop them, is very intriguing to me,” he says.

Looking forward, Samuel’s dream job is to work as a Security Consultant. The role appeals to him because it blends both his technical and interpersonal strengths. “I love the idea of being contracted by a company to help them improve their security posture and mitigate their risk of cyber attacks,” he shares. It’s a career path that excites him and aligns perfectly with his passion for problem-solving and supporting others.

Emmanuel Akinsanya – Data Analytics Stream

Emmanuel Akinsanya describes himself as humble, hardworking, and always eager to learn new skills. With a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, he recently pivoted into technology to pursue a career in data analytics. Joining the Skills for Hire Atlantic program has been a key part of that journey, offering him both technical growth and a supportive community. “Getting the opportunity to learn Data Analytics in the Digital Nova Scotia Skills for Hire program is one of the best experiences in tech—it’s highly recommended and very rewarding,” he says.

What Emmanuel enjoys most is the flexibility of the program and the guidance from the Teaching Assistants. “I like the available ‘at your pace’ resources and the humility and dedication of the TA,” he shares. He also appreciates the chance to network and connect with peers and industry experts, making the learning process even more valuable.

His interest in data analytics comes from a long-standing passion for working with numbers and processing information. Over the years, Emmanuel has honed his skills with data processing applications and has developed a growing interest in programming languages and artificial intelligence. For him, data analytics is both a natural fit and an exciting opportunity to build expertise in a high-demand field.

Looking ahead, Emmanuel’s dream job is to work in tech as a Data Analyst, with a strong interest in project management. “We need the processing of data to be in a project form from initiation to closing,” he explains. Combining his analytical skills with project-focused work would allow him to make a meaningful impact while continuing to grow in his career.

Carole Potter – Data Analytics Stream

“What I’ve appreciated most about Skills for Hire is how it bridges the gap between learning technical skills and seeing how they apply in real-world situations,” Carole shares. “The program has pushed me outside my comfort zone, but always in a way that feels encouraging and supported. Coming from a healthcare background, I really value that it’s not just about the tools or the code, it’s about building systems that actually help people.”

Carole was drawn to data analytics because of the ability to turn raw information into something tangible. She is especially excited by visualization, which allows her to uncover patterns and make sense of details in new ways. Her background in healthcare sharpened her ability to look for connections, and analytics now gives her the tools to apply that skill in a technical field.

Looking ahead, Carole’s dream job is to work as a Data Analyst in healthcare or the public sector. She wants to use data to solve problems, show the bigger picture in a clear way, and help organizations make smarter, more informed decisions. “I want to be in a role where my curiosity and knowledge form solutions that make processes smarter and decisions clearer,” she says.

Jonathan Gabriel – Data Analytics Stream

Jonathan Gabriel is an IT professional with eight years of experience, specializing in application support with technologies such as SQL Server, Splunk, and IBM DataStage. Over the years, he has developed expertise in automating manual tasks, from deleting outdated data to alerting client sites about software version issues. Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys exploring different operating systems, from Linux distributions and BSD to vintage systems. Currently seeking new opportunities in IT, he joined the Skills for Hire Atlantic program to expand his technical toolkit with in-demand skills like Python and cloud computing.

“I am enjoying learning about Python and reinforcing my knowledge of SQL,” Jonathan shares. “I also appreciate the practical examples that show what can be done with these technologies. I’m especially looking forward to learning more about AWS later in the program.”

His interest in data analytics comes from a desire to pair his SQL experience with new tools for identifying patterns and anomalies in data. Python and its libraries, such as pandas, matplotlib, and seaborn, are particularly exciting for him because they open up new possibilities for visualizing and interpreting information.

Looking ahead, Jonathan’s dream job is in application and systems support or system administration. “I love working with operating systems like Linux and Windows, and I enjoy using tools such as Splunk and SQL Server to analyze data for patterns and anomalies,” he says. It’s a role that allows him to combine his technical strengths with his curiosity for solving complex IT challenges.

Hamza Rasool – Volet cybersécurité

Hamza Rasool est étudiant à la maîtrise en ingénierie, spécialisé en génie électrique et informatique à l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick. Fort de plusieurs années d’expérience en systèmes TI, il a toujours été fasciné par l’intersection entre l’ingénierie et la cybersécurité. À son arrivée au Canada, Hamza savait qu’il souhaitait évoluer dans un domaine ayant un réel impact, et la cybersécurité s’est imposée comme une évidence. Le programme Skills for Hire Atlantic lui a offert la structure, le soutien et la communauté qu’il recherchait, et il s’y investit avec enthousiasme.

 « Ce que j’apprécie le plus, c’est à quel point l’apprentissage est pratique et stimulant, dit-il. Le contenu est concret et pensé pour nous préparer aux rôles réels, et les séances en direct aident à rester motivé et connecté. J’apprécie aussi la bienveillance de la communauté — on sent que tout le monde veut voir les autres progresser. »

Parmi tous les cours, le module de cryptographie est son préféré. Découvrir comment le chiffrement protège le monde numérique lui a donné une nouvelle appréciation des systèmes qui sécurisent les données. « Comprendre comment des algorithmes comme AES et RSA fonctionnent, c’était fascinant, explique-t-il. Réaliser que derrière chaque “connexion sécurisée” se cache un bel édifice de logique et de mathématiques m’a donné envie d’aller encore plus loin. »

L’étincelle, pour Hamza, est venue lorsqu’il a compris que même les systèmes les mieux conçus peuvent échouer sans protection adéquate. Il voit la cybersécurité non seulement comme un domaine technique, mais aussi comme une responsabilité numérique — protéger la confiance que les gens placent chaque jour dans la technologie. Cette mission nourrit sa motivation à apprendre et à grandir.

À l’avenir, Hamza rêve de travailler en recherche et développement sur le chiffrement quantique et la sécurité quantique. Avec l’essor de l’informatique quantique, il estime que nous sommes à l’aube d’un changement majeur dans la protection de l’information. « Faire partie de cette frontière — aider à concevoir l’avenir des communications sécurisées dans un monde post-quantique — serait à la fois exaltant et profondément porteur de sens », dit-il.

Bayan possède une expérience en soutien technique et en administration et s’est toujours intéressée aux technologies. Récemment, elle a choisi d’élargir ses compétences et de se concentrer sur la cybersécurité, un domaine à la fois essentiel et riche en possibilités. En rejoignant le programme Skills for Hire Atlantic, elle a pu acquérir des connaissances pratiques, gagner en confiance et progresser vers son objectif de carrière en cybersécurité.

« J’aime le programme parce que j’y apprends de nouvelles choses sur la cybersécurité, et les leçons sont claires et faciles à suivre, » partage-t-elle. « J’apprécie aussi le soutien des formateurs et leur façon d’expliquer chaque étape. »

Son cours préféré à ce jour est Cybersecurity Fundamentals, qu’elle trouve à la fois intéressant et accessible. Apprendre les bases de manière simple et structurée lui a donné de solides fondations pour la suite.

L’intérêt de Bayan pour la cybersécurité vient de sa volonté de comprendre comment protéger les données et rester en sécurité en ligne. Avec l’évolution rapide des technologies, elle considère la cybersécurité comme un domaine crucial et passionnant, offrant d’innombrables possibilités d’apprentissage et de progression. Cette motivation guide son parcours et renforce ses objectifs professionnels.

Son poste rêvé : analyste en cybersécurité, un rôle qui lui permet de résoudre des problèmes, de protéger l’information et de continuer à développer ses compétences. « J’aime résoudre des problèmes, apprendre de nouvelles compétences et contribuer à la sécurité de l’information, » dit-elle. « Cette carrière offre aussi de belles perspectives d’évolution et un avenir solide. »

Samuel White – Volet cybersécurité

Samuel White est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en informatique de l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick et compte plus de trois ans d’expérience en assurance qualité. Après avoir démarré sa carrière en TI, il a choisi de se consacrer à un projet personnel audacieux : la création de contenu sur Twitch à temps plein. Même si cette aventure n’a pas eu l’issue espérée, Samuel est fier du risque qu’il a pris et des leçons apprises. Aujourd’hui, il travaille en vente pour renforcer ses compétences interpersonnelles et de communication, tout en revenant développer son expertise technique en cybersécurité.

Ce que Samuel apprécie le plus dans Skills for Hire Atlantic, c’est le sens de la communauté. « Nous sommes plus d’une centaine d’étudiants aux parcours très variés, tous là pour apprendre la cybersécurité et l’analyse de données, » dit-il. « Être entouré d’une communauté avide d’apprendre est très motivant — cela m’aide à rester rigoureux et à soutenir celles et ceux qui sont bloqués. » Il salue également la constance du soutien apporté par l’équipe du programme.

Son cours favori jusqu’ici est Python 3 Fundamentals sur Pluralsight. « Je voulais apprendre Python depuis longtemps et ce cours m’a enfin ouvert la porte des bases, » explique-t-il. Les exemples et démonstrations lui ont donné un socle solide, et coder en parallèle des leçons a éveillé son envie d’aller plus loin.

L’intérêt de Samuel pour la cybersécurité vient de l’importance croissante de la protection des systèmes et des données. Face à la hausse des cyberattaques, il souhaite faire partie de la solution. « Comprendre comment et pourquoi les attaques se produisent, et essayer de les empêcher, m’intrigue énormément, » dit-il.

Pour la suite, Samuel vise un rôle de conseiller en sécurité. Ce poste l’attire parce qu’il allie compétences techniques et humaines. « J’aime l’idée d’être mandaté par une entreprise pour améliorer sa posture de sécurité et réduire son exposition aux cyberrisques, » partage-t-il. Ce chemin de carrière le stimule et s’accorde avec sa passion pour la résolution de problèmes et l’accompagnement.

Emmanuel Akinsanya – Volet analyse des données

Emmanuel Akinsanya se décrit comme humble, travailleur et avide d’apprendre. Titulaire d’un baccalauréat et d’une maîtrise en biochimie et biotechnologie, il a récemment bifurqué vers les technologies pour se consacrer à l’analyse de données. Rejoindre Skills for Hire Atlantic a été une étape clé, lui offrant à la fois progression technique et communauté de soutien. « Avoir l’opportunité d’apprendre l’analyse de données dans le programme Skills for Hire de Digital Nova Scotia est l’une de mes meilleures expériences en tech — je le recommande vivement, et c’est très gratifiant, » dit-il.

Ce qu’Emmanuel apprécie le plus : la flexibilité du programme et l’accompagnement des assistants d’enseignement. « J’aime les ressources “à votre rythme” et l’humilité ainsi que le dévouement des TA, » partage-t-il. Il valorise aussi les occasions de réseautage avec ses pairs et des experts, qui enrichissent encore l’apprentissage.

Son intérêt pour l’analyse de données s’enracine dans un goût durable pour les chiffres et le traitement de l’information. Au fil du temps, il a perfectionné ses outils de traitement de données et nourrit désormais un intérêt croissant pour les langages de programmation et l’intelligence artificielle. Pour lui, l’analyse de données est un choix naturel et une chance de bâtir une expertise recherchée.

À l’avenir, Emmanuel souhaite travailler en tech comme analyste de données, avec un fort intérêt pour la gestion de projet. « Le traitement des données doit s’inscrire dans une logique de projet, de l’initiation à la clôture, » explique-t-il. Associer ses compétences analytiques à une approche projet lui permettrait d’avoir un impact concret tout en poursuivant sa progression.

Carole Potter – Volet analyse des données

« Ce que j’apprécie le plus dans Skills for Hire, c’est le pont entre l’apprentissage technique et l’application réelle, » partage-t-elle. « Le programme m’a poussée hors de ma zone de confort, mais avec bienveillance. Issue du milieu de la santé, j’aime que ce ne soit pas seulement des outils ou du code : il s’agit de construire des systèmes qui aident vraiment les gens. »

Carole s’est tournée vers l’analyse de données pour sa capacité à rendre tangible l’information brute. La visualisation l’enthousiasme particulièrement : elle permet de dégager des motifs et de donner du sens aux détails. Son expérience en santé a affûté son regard des connexions ; l’analytique lui offre désormais les outils pour l’appliquer dans un cadre technique.

Pour la suite, Carole vise un rôle d’analyste de données en santé ou dans le secteur public. Elle souhaite utiliser les données pour résoudre des problèmes, clarifier la vue d’ensemble et aider les organisations à décider plus intelligemment. « Je veux occuper un poste où ma curiosité et mes connaissances se traduisent en solutions qui rendent les processus plus intelligents et les décisions plus claires, » dit-elle.

Jonathan Gabriel – Volet analyse des données

Jonathan Gabriel est un professionnel des TI comptant huit ans d’expérience, spécialisé en soutien applicatif avec des technologies comme SQL Server, Splunk et IBM DataStage. « J’aime apprendre Python et consolider mes connaissances en SQL, » partage-t-il. « J’apprécie aussi les exemples concrets qui montrent ce qu’on peut faire avec ces technologies. J’ai hâte d’en savoir plus sur AWS plus tard dans le programme. »

Son intérêt pour l’analyse de données vient de l’envie d’associer son expérience SQL à de nouveaux outils pour détecter des motifs et des anomalies. Python et ses bibliothèques — pandas, matplotlib, seaborn — s’enthousiasment particulièrement car elles ouvrent de nouvelles possibilités de visualisation et d’interprétation des données.
