REDspace continues to inspire young innovators through Digital Discovery Camps

For more than a decade, REDspace has helped young Nova Scotians discover what is possible through technology as the EPIC Gigabyte Sponsor of Digital Nova Scotia’s Digital Discovery Camp. Delivered in partnership with the Discovery Centre, the camps introduce youth to fields such as coding, game development, robotics and cybersecurity through hands-on activities and opportunities to learn directly from professionals working across Nova Scotia’s tech sector. In 2026, more than 100 campers took part across eight weeks of programming in six locations — and REDspace’s continued support helped make each of those experiences possible. A highlight of the camps each year is a visit to REDspace’s Bedford office, where campers get a firsthand look at what working intechnology can look like. This year, they toured the space, tackled a webpage design project and took part in the always-popular “jam sandwich” activity, which challenges participants to give precise, step-by-step instructions and demonstrates the logic behind programming. The activity became especially competitive during the second August camp, as participants tried to beat the previous group’s time—with a few spirited debates about the best Pokémon along the way. Of course, no visit to REDspace would be complete without a trip down its iconic red slide. SuperNOVA led an activity using take-home micro:bit kits provided by REDspace, allowing campers to build miniature traffic lights using breadboards. Techsploration introduced renewable energy through small solar-powered cars and fans, while the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia delivered a cybersecurity session focused on creating strong passwords. Other returning and new mentors included Skills Canada–Nova Scotia, the Construction Association of Nova Scotia, Bitten Toast Games, Volta, the Interactive Society of Nova Scotia and Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Computer Science. Camp counsellors also introduced Game Jams for the first time this year, giving participants a full day to design and build their own games using Scratch. Activities like these offer more than an introduction to technical concepts — they encourage campers to experiment, solve problems, collaborate and see themselves as creators of technology. REDspace’s contribution extends well beyond its financial support. By welcoming campers into its workplace, sharing the expertise of its team and helping provide the tools needed for hands-on learning, the company continues to make technology feel tangible, exciting and within reach. Thank you to REDspace for its continued commitment to the Digital Discovery Camps and for helping inspire Nova Scotia’s next generation of innovators. With its support, more young people across the province can explore their interests, build new skills and begin imagining where technology could take them. [ml_gallery id="3505931"]
