‘Leave it to us:’ Nicom IT stays up-to-date with tech so you don’t have to

Nicom IT Solutions’ goal is simple: to make their customers' lives easier—and their qualified team of technical experts have been doing just that in Nova Scotia for more than 40 years.
Nicom IT Solutions is an IT services company headquartered in Halifax, with staff and partners around the world. The company provides a wide range of IT services, including managed and technical support services, IT consulting and implementation, custom developed applications, website design and development, IT staffing solutions, and information management systems for seaports and marine pilotage organizations.
“Our role is to make our customers’ lives easier by having our experts integrate technology to make their businesses run more efficiently,” said Vince Forrestall, Nicom IT Solutions CEO. Nicom IT recently became one of the Digital Advisors for the very important CDAP Federal program. “What a great opportunity for businesses to get substantial grants to get a roadmap on their digital journey. The funds are limited so companies should reach out to us to get access to these heavily subsidized funds.”
“Business people should be spending their time with their customers and employees so they can increase their solutions, revenue and profits, not trying to stay up to date with technology—leave that to us.”
Forrestall purchased the company a little over two years ago, and he’s “more than excited” to bring his expertise to Nicom IT to help grow it into a true national player, carry on its tradition of great service and expand and enhance its current offering.
“We have many long-tenured employees that are well known throughout the region—first because they are just fine people and, of course, also experts in what they do,” said Forrestall.
“We educate all of our incredibly special team members on the latest and greatest solutions so our customers know that they will have the latest in security protection and price competitive solutions that will help them stay leaders in their business.”
Many of these employees are helping to lead the way in automating and digitizing seaport and pilotage operations. Nicom IT provides global solutions and subject matter expertise that help Maritime business and IT projects succeed.
“Security concerns, auditable processes and increased efficiencies are not options, they are table stakes,” said Conor Larocque, Manager of Operations and Delivery. “These are competitive industries and they must combine business acumen with great technology solutions to be best of breed and make it easy for their customers to do business with them.”
Forrestall adds that Nicom IT has developed software and solutions used by many ports and pilotage associations, including the Halifax Port Authority and the Atlantic Pilotage Authority. “We work with many partners in the global Maritime solutions ecosystem to help each other perform better for our customers, whether that is customizing and selling our software to them or helping them in creating custom made solutions with our development expertise.”
While Nicom IT continues to expand on a global scale, the team’s support for the Nova Scotia tech sector has never wavered.
“We have a long legacy in Nova Scotia, and we are very grateful for all of the support that we have had through the years,” said Forrestall, adding he’s thrilled to be a part of the province’s growth, much of which he attributes to the region’s talented workforce, lifestyle options and job opportunities.
Nicom IT is also actively recruiting the best talent to ensure they’re well positioned to keep up with the growing demand for services and perform at their very best.
“In this business environment, technology is not a ‘nice to have,’ it is a necessary driver of a well-run business,” said Angus MacKinnon, Sales Leader of the Atlantic Region. “Nicom IT is here to take accountability and to make sure your business is safe and runs properly, so you can focus on making your customers thrilled every day. Of course, it is also a great time to take advantage of the CDAP program.”
