Digital Nova Scotia is thrilled to welcome Laura Dowd to our team for the summer. A web development student from NSCC, Laura will be working with us to improve the functionality of our website (yay!).
We asked Laura a few quick questions so that we could all get to know her a little better:
Laura, can you tell us about yourself?
I am a student in web development looking forward to graduating in May 2020. I am always busy with “something” whether that something is drawing, writing, coding, or anything that I deem exciting I am on it.
When we met you in your interview, you told us you were proud of the career you’ve chosen – what excites you most about a career in tech?
Making the web a better place! I want to build websites that don’t just look beautiful but work beautifully. I am also excited to work with others who are passionate. When I first entered my school program, and then the workplace it made me feel like “I found my people” those with similar passions, interests, and goals.
The tech sector in Nova Scotia is thriving, what are you most looking forward to about working in this industry?
I love learning and by being apart of the tech industry it allows me to learn new things every day. I am so excited to see how the web will evolve, and to be a part of that evolution for years to come.
I consider myself a hybrid because I can I can think on the technical side of things, while still capable of being apart of the design and visual aspects. So, I guess I am also excited to share my ideas and bring what makes me unique to the table.
So, it’s your first day, what has been the best bit?
Free coffee & tea! Just kidding, I believe the best bit to be meeting all of the cool lads who work at DNS.
What’s something you’re really interested in that might surprise us?
I am a foodie, I love to cook and create new recipes! I post them on my Instagram account for recipes and food that I create.
If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
Japan in a heartbeat, I’ve wanted to go to Japan for as long as I can remember, the culture and everything about that country is so interesting to me. I would just like to travel to places to explore and view old architecture.
Quick hitters!
Spring or fall? Fall – because of pumpkin spice & scarfs
Android or iPhone? Android
Comedy or thriller? Thriller
Coffee or tea? Tea
Star Wars or Star Trek? Neither?
Laptop or desktop? Laptop
Breakfast or dinner? Breakfast – because oatmeal!

We are over the moon to have Laura join us for the summer! If you see her at our events, make sure you say hello!
