Atlantic Labour Market Brief: November 2024

Canada

  • Employment grew in the latest month by 50,500 jobs, making it the fourth consecutive monthly gain.
  • Full-time jobs increased alongside fewer part-time.
  • The unemployment rate moved higher in the month to 6.8%, reaching its highest point since September 2021.
  • The goods-producing sector lost jobs in November (-20,800), while the services-producing sector saw growth of 71,500 jobs.

Atlantic Canada

  • Employment expanded at a moderate pace in the month, up 0.6% on an annualized basis.
  • Part-time jobs increased while full-time jobs declined.
  • The unemployment rate moved higher in the month to 7.5%.
  • The goods-producing sector added jobs (+1,700), while the service sector saw job reductions of 1,000.
