Canada

  • The number of people employed declined in July by 40,800 jobs.
  • Part-time jobs increased while full-time jobs declined.
  • The rate of unemployment saw no change from last month, remaining at 6.9%.
  • The goods-producing sector lost jobs in July (-29,000), while the service sector saw job reductions of 11,900.

Labour force: 22,580,700 (-33,000)
Employment: 21,020,400 (-40,800)

 

Atlantic Canada

  • More people were working in July, with the addition of 4,700 jobs
  • Part-time jobs increased while full-time jobs declined.
  • The unemployment rate moved higher in the month to 8.0%, reaching its highest point since August 2022.
  • The goods-producing sector lost jobs in July (1,000), while the services-producing sector saw growth of 5,700 jobs.

Employment: 1,271,900 (+4,700)

  • Unemployment Rate: 7%
