Atlantic Labour Market Brief: December 2021
Canada
- The country experienced growth in employment in December, amounting to 54,700 jobs, making it the seventh consecutive monthly gain.
- Full-time jobs increased alongside fewer part-time.
- The unemployment rate declined slightly in December to 5.9%, reaching its lowest point since February 2020.
- The goods-producing sector added jobs (+44,200), while the services-producing sector saw growth of 10,600 jobs.

Atlantic Canada
- Employment fell sharply in December, down from the previous month by 6,000 jobs.
- The job reductions occurred in both full-time and part-time positions.
- The unemployment rate declined slightly in December to 8.6%, reaching its lowest point since January 2020.
- The goods-producing sector lost jobs in December (-3,900), while the service sector saw job reductions of 2,400.
