Atlantic Labour Market Brief: August 2020

Canada

Employment grew at a strong pace in August, up from the prior month by 245,800 jobs, making it the fourth consecutive monthly gain. The growth occurred in both full time and part time positions. The rate of unemployment fell sharply, going from 10.9% to 10.2%, influenced by solid job gains. The goods producing sector added jobs (+27,600), while the services producing sector saw growth of 218,100 jobs.

Atlantic Canada

Employment grew at a strong pace in June, up from the prior month by 12,100 jobs, making it the fourth consecutive monthly gain. The growth occurred in both full time and part time positions. The rate of unemployment rose sharply, going from 11.5% to 10.6%. The goods producing sector added jobs (+1,900), while the services producing sector saw growth of 10,300 jobs.
