Meet our Skills for Hire Student of the Month – Diego!

May 26, 2021

When the first lockdown began, Diego Alexis Romero García decided it was time for a career change. He began to teach himself to code, watch online tutorials and read books on programming languages – and then he found our 12-week Skills for Hire Program. It was a perfect fit.

Diego is a participant in our first web development cohort for Skills for Hire. The 12-week self-directed program covers the fundamentals of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end web design and development basics. Almost at the halfway point, Diego is embracing the flexibility of the program, allowing him to study and learn at his own pace, and work around his day-to-day schedule.

Born and raised in Mexico, Diego immigrated to Canada in 2017 and soon found himself pivoting away from a 14-year career. When he first began Skills for Hire, he had a keen interest in back-end web development, and now just six weeks later he is enjoying learning more about front-end, design, and user experience. Once he completes the program, Diego hopes to find work as a web developer and get hands-on experience in Nova Scotia’s tech industry.

If you’ve got an interest in the tech industry, are eager to learn, and want a practical approach – Diego says this program is for you!

The Skills For Hire program is a digital skills and career-building training program designed to help fill the need for entry-level tech talent in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Applications for our next cohort in UX open June 7th.
