Senior Systems Engineer Staff, Subcontracts Technical Lead

About the role

The candidate will participate as a member of the Naval Development team in the role of Technical Authority Lead for the Combat System vendor subcontracts as a liaison between the supply chain and engineers in a multi-disciplined team environment supporting the total engineering life cycle from specification, design, development, integration and test, deployment, maintenance and field trouble shooting for their responsible Subsystem within the large-scale high complexity naval platform systems.

The candidate will participate in activities including but not limited to:

  • Integrate engineering vendor supply chain management capabilities, awareness and responsibilities
  • Integrate vendor activities and deliverables into the program
  • Liaise with Engineering Management Teams (Integrated Product Team (IPT), Systems Engineering and Integration Team (SEIT), Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) and Systems Engineering (SE)) to elevate risks and issues and communicate dependencies on internal and external actors and report on progress
  • Manage changes to subcontractor Statements of Work and related artefacts
  • Coordinate and manage program schedules as they relate to the subcontractors
  • Establish and improve subcontracts related processes and coordination with the team
  • Take program priorities and goals from IPT Lead/Deputy and develop and implement actionable plans
  • Liaise with Sourcing and Data Management (DM) to establish common technical authority processes to manage vendor documentation, bid responses, etc.
  • Liaise with Sourcing, IPT System Owners and Vendors to ensure vendors supply appropriate technical data for the program
  • Develop and report Subcontractor and Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) metrics.

What you bring to the role

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in software, hardware, systems, mechanical, electrical, electronic engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience
  • Equivalent experience/combined education will be considered
  • Experience with Software, Systems, Hardware or Maintenance engineering lifecycles
  • Experience in technical management of complex subcontracts
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical members of the engineering/management staff and personnel assigned to related work
  • Aptitude for solving challenging problems in a team environment
  • Have a high degree of initiative and autonomy
  • Have a high learning ability
  • Ability to adapt and perform in a dynamic environment.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Familiarity with DOORS, Windchill
  • Experience with Agile methods
  • Experience with Military Naval domain
  • Experience with Sensors, Weapons or Ship integration
  • Experience with Change Management, Requirements Management.
