As a member of the Technology PMO, you will join a dynamic group of responsive Project Management and supporting delivery professionals leading enterprise technology enabled projects.

In the move toward becoming a digital utility, we are transforming our project delivery practice through the introduction of an agile delivery framework. We are eager to develop existing team members as well as introduce experienced agile delivery team members as we begin the next chapter of our digital journey at Nova Scotia Power, and how we as an organization can work differently to accelerate our delivery of safe, cleaner, reliable and affordable energy.


In the role of Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing larger cross-functional project teams using NSPI’s Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) framework (based on PMI’s PMBOK). The position will provide strategic leadership, project management and oversight of the overall execution of the assigned projects. The primary accountability for this position is to ensure that projects are planned and executed consistent with NSPI’s overall business goals and strategies and are implemented on time and on budget meeting the identified business needs. You will also be expected to help mentor other junior Technology PMO team members on agile delivery practices, contributing to our culture of knowledge and organizational learning at Nova Scotia Power.

You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience:

The successful candidate must have at least seven (7) years’ experience in a Project Manager role, ideally with demonstrated agile delivery experience, preferably on technology enabled intensive projects with budgets > $1M. Preference will be given to those candidates with an undergraduate degree or diploma in Management, Business, Engineering, Project Management, Information Technology or related field. PMP and PMI-ACP certification or comparable PM and Agile PM certification (or demonstrated intent), is strongly desired. You are well versed in agile project management practices, systems delivery methodologies, tools, techniques, and trends. Any experience working as a Scrum Master would be advantageous. Ideally you will be experienced in leading Cybersecurity related projects of product lines.
You possess solid communication and interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, and negotiation skills. You have the ability to work under self-direction toward pre-determined long-term goals and use considerable latitude in determining objectives of the assignment. The successful candidate will understand that diplomacy, effective listening and the ability to influence or persuade are essential for effective management of projects. Knowledge of NSPI business processes and utility practices are an asset. Understanding there are changes resulting from the global pandemic that may impact our traditional working environment, the successful candidate should also be comfortable working remotely (as required) and chairing and contributing to meetings held through video conferencing.

The critical skills for this role include:

  • Demonstrated traditional and agile project management capabilities (leadership, influence, delegation, organization, facilitation, sprint planning & control);
  • Solid understanding of project delivery models as well as expert knowledge of both agile and traditional project management principles and practices;
  • Experience in deployment of enterprise class solutions (software/hardware) and system integration;
  • Ability to communicate with leaders and decision makers with varying perspectives;
  • Experience using project management software/tools;
  • Proven written and oral presentation skills;
  • Scrum Master Certification (desired); and,
  • Working knowledge/certification of ITIL would be considered an asset.
