Nova Scotia Power has embarked on a new way of working (i.e. Agile) to deliver its cyber security capabilities across all Emera Canadian companies (Nova Scotia Power, Emera Inc., Emera Energy, Emera New Brunswick, and Emera Newfoundland and Labrador). An agile way of working is not tied to process or tools, but rather a mindset that prioritizes business and technology working together throughout all phases of a project. Agile brings together cross-functional teams that deliver organizational goals in short iterations to bring value to the business sooner than later.
We are currently looking to fill the position of Product Owner for our Core Security Product Line. Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Cyber Security Initiatives, you will drive the implementation of cyber security capabilities in an agile environment by understanding the business and technology requirements to deliver on the objectives of the Core Security Product Line. Core Security projects include, but are not limited to, the advancement of operating system and endpoint security , including network/host-based security, wireless and mobile devices.
The Product Owner role defines and communicates the vision, capabilities, and value proposition of the product. As the successful candidate, you will steer the product line throughout the lifecycle and ensure the final delivered product is aligned to the product goal and delivers on business (end-user) requirements. You will validate that the work produced by teams are aligned to business and technology value through modern product management techniques (e.g., OKRs, canvassing, design thinking, User Story Mapping, prioritizing value-focused backlog, , etc.) as well as lead team planning sessions, daily scrums, retrospectives, sprint reviews, etc. to ensure alignment on vision and value delivery.
This leadership role requires an individual with a strong technical background, as well as a keen ability to work with the broader organization to align priorities and plans with key business objectives. As such, you must excel at balancing technology solutions with business drivers such as speed, agility, quality, and performance. This role will be well-suited to an experienced team leader or skilled mentor looking to expand their career leading a team assembled for the agile delivery of our cyber security initiatives or an experienced security professional looking to develop managerial responsibilities leading a Core Security Product Line to mature our cyber security posture.
You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
Skills, Capabilities and Experience:
A strong desire to learn, recommend, and support new security technologies (e.g., email security/SIEM/Firewalls/IDS/IPS/VPN/EDR/AV/AM/CASB, etc.) that can be adopted to enhance the Cyber Security profile of the Emera Canadian companies is critical for this role. Although you are most known for your proven ability to effectively deliver business change through technology, your strong influencing, persuasion and facilitation skills are also your key strengths. A solid understanding of program and project management methodologies and Agile practices is preferred but not mandatory.
You hold a bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, information security, engineering or other related discipline, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in an Information Technology related field. Industry recognized certification(s) in information technology risk and security are considered an asset.
