Reporting to the Manager of Network and Client Services, the Network Systems Generalist will be part of the Network Services team. This team provide a high quality, reliable network infrastructure which serves the needs of over 4,000 students in addition to 500 faculty and staff at the university.
The Network Systems Generalist is expected to provide day to day operational support within the network team to manage and maintain the university’s enterprise datacenter and networked devices. This is a dynamic position which requires a motivated individual who has the ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment. The incumbent must be able to maintain, administer, monitor, document, troubleshoot and support networked devices in a complex environment. The incumbent will have demonstrated the ability to manage changing priorities and being able to handle several complex tasks concurrently with minimal supervision.
The Network Systems Generalist applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and a minimum of three years’ experience, or an equivalent of directly related training and experience, configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting an enterprise campus data network. The ideal applicant will have strong analytical thinking skills, have excellent organizational and time management skills, while being self-directed and able to establish and meet service delivery guidelines. They must have a strong desire to learn and utilize new technologies. Specifically, experience with Windows server, MS active directory, Office 365, Azure, VMware, HP/Aruba switching and wireless is preferable. Generally, they must have demonstrated skills, knowledge, and technical competence in the areas of servers, virtualization, directory services, networking technologies, security, and associated infrastructure.
Excellent interpersonal skills along with strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for proper documentation and to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical individuals at the university.
