Job Summary

The ITS Infrastructure Services organization manages central client functions as well as core and mission critical network and system infrastructure at Dalhousie University. Reporting to the Manager Network Operations, the Network Architect in Engineering Services is responsible for designing, architecture, and managing enterprise scale network infrastructures. The Network Architect is also responsible for reviewing network and communications requirements including network operations equipment and designs, monitoring systems and designs and security systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan the installation and implementation of network systems and ensure that proper operations procedures and resource requirements are developed and met.
  • Communicate critical and time sensitive network planning, performance, and vulnerability information and ensure security compliance through extensive technical documentation and adhering to security best practices and network industry standards.
  • Assist with incident response on a 7×24 basis and provide assistance as required for major incident resolution. Act as a mentor for the team and develop training plans for staff commensurate with technology trends.
  • Perform network modelling using network data to project growth (applications, locations, users) and optimization of the network. Assess business and applications requirements for corporate data and voice networks.
  • Troubleshoot network architecture and make recommendations for system findings and enhancements, and make recommendations for leveraging network installations and reducing operational costs.
  • Provide guidance, oversight, and direction for the application of state-of-the-art information technology ensuring use of best-in-class technologies and practices.

Master’s of Internetworking or related field, plus a minimum of approximately five to ten years’ experience in technical, enterprise network design and delivery (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Must be able to exercise initiative and independent judgment in a complex organizational environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills is required. The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others is key. Flexibility and creative problem-solving skills are vital to this role.
