SUMMARY:An Illustrated Future : The New Magical Era of Branding your Business
DESCRIPTION:“Your business needs to use illustration.” \n“Hmm\, I don’t know about that—why would you think that?” \n“Because illustration\, at its core\, is the ability to create something out of nothing. That’s magic! And who doesn’t want their brand to feel like they’re the magical ones compared to their competitors who are floating in a sea of sameness.” \n–Illustration as a visual medium is the ability to create something out of nothing. It can be expressed in any number of ways\, from editorializing a blog post—to a technical rendering of a product—to your brand story posted on social media. It can be anything! And more importantly\, it can be 100% customized to express what your company does so well and what it can do to build a better future. \nSo the big question is—why is illustration not as popular of a visual tool compared to options like photography\, stock imagery or user generated content? \n‘Illustration’ has a reputation that is often described as juvenile\, cartoony or receives the oh-so-familiar reception of\, “it’s just not part of our brand”. It can be! With a confluence of creativity and courage\, it can be something much\, much more than its historical reputation. \nIt’s time to broaden our understanding of how illustration can be applied to a brand in ways to accentuate its visual identity and extend its marketing reach to approach new audiences and users. \nTogether\, we will look at how illustration-inspired design can influence how an organization can extend its brand to reach new heights—with an emphasis on global tech leaders that use illustration as a foundation to emphasize their vision and values. \nWe will also see how illustration can be used in a local context by reviewing cases of how it’s been utilized to help Nova Scotian businesses apply their mission in unique ways that are impactful and honest to their brand. \n3 Key Takeaways \n\nIllustration can be used to humanize your visual brand to make your digital marketing efforts more approachable\nIllustration is a way to personalize your brand to embody the true spirit of your organization\, while simultaneously differentiating yourself from your competitors\nIllustration is a bridge to express the unknown; it can provide shape to an unimaginable future inspired by the vision and values of your organization\n\nMeet your Presenter.. \nGreg Dubeau RGD is a registered graphic designer and illustrator who has lived\, studied\, and worked across Canada from coast to coast. He runs a small design studio in Halifax\, where he collaborates with local and national agencies\, organizations\, and entrepreneurs to make their businesses look and work a little bit better than they did yesterday.Working with Greg is different—but in a good way. His multidimensional skill set places him apart from creative agencies because he independently integrates creative and strategic agility into every stage of the creative process. This reaps his clients such benefits as: accelerated timelines\, competitive rates\, operational transparency\, and active collaboration on every phase of the project.Greg is also a Design Professor at NSCAD University where he teaches courses on UX and UI design\, client relations\, and grassroot community change through design.

SUMMARY:Better Together: Security Insights from IT/OT Convergence
DESCRIPTION:For many years IT (information technology) networks have operated independently of OT (operational technology) networks. But digital transformation and the cloud drove convergence of the two as OT networks were connected to other networks and (ultimately) to the Internet. \nWhile this convergence brings new opportunities\, it has also fostered a need for IT and OT teams to work together to ensure operations are protected and available. In a world where bad guys can search for misconfigured or vulnerable OT infrastructure using technologies like Shodan\, the OT side of the house can represent both tempting targets and a pathway into the organization for lateral movement. \nIn this session hosted by BeyondTrust\, Diana Kelley will take a look at the differences between IT and OT and at the important characteristics that are shared across both. Rather than being at odds with each other\, IT and OT teams can be better together. \nTopics to be discussed: \n\nWhy availability is so important in an OT environment\nHow segmentation in OT differs from IT\nNeed for on-premise OT security controls\nReal world examples of IT/OT security team collaboration

SUMMARY:Barriers & challenges facing the 2SLGBTQ+ community in the tech industry
DESCRIPTION:Creating an open and inclusive work environment that attracts and retains diverse talent has never been more essential to remain competitive. 2SLGBTQ+ people working in markets across Canada experience various workplace cultures and barriers to inclusion unique to this population. Despite progress toward wholly inclusive and diverse workplace environments\, more must be done regarding stigmatization\, higher risk of harassment\, intersectionality\, and lack of visibility\, especially for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) people. This webinar aims to increase awareness and understanding of the challenges and barriers facing members of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities in the workplace and to provide practical steps for creating more inclusive and supportive work environments. \n3 Key Takeaways.. \n\nThe term ‘Pride’ represents a way of embracing one’s identity\, turning away from shame\, and honoring diversity.\nMany individuals who experience discrimination based on their sexual orientation\, race\, religion\, or ethnicity are forced to mask their true selves on a daily basis. This can drain their energy and limit their potential in the workplace.\nAllyship is crucial. This means engaging with local communities and taking action\, such as normalizing the use of pronouns at work\, offering gender-affirming healthcare benefits\, and reviewing policies to ensure they’re inclusive for everyone. \n\nMeet your Presenter… \n\nSara Velimirovic is a speaker\, activist\, and Partnerships Manager at QueerTech\, a Montreal-based nonprofit organization that promotes diversity and inclusivity within the Canadian tech industry. Sara was born and raised in Belgrade and later moved to Paris to pursue their studies in political science at Sciences Po Paris. Sara is a nature lover\, runner\, yogi\, and passionate advocate for mental health awareness.  \n  \n  \n  \n
