SUMMARY:Blue Hackathon
DESCRIPTION:The first-ever Blue Hackathon will bring together Dalhousie undergraduates and graduates from all disciplines to dive deep into tackling real-world ocean-based energy problems. If you’re a current Dalhousie student\, join us for an immersive hackathon on September 20th-21st on campus! \nNew to hackathons? No worries. We won’t require you to build hardware or program code – but we will encourage creativity of all kinds! Through mentorship and collaboration\, this hackathon is designed to equip you with the context\, support\, and resources needed to thrive in this competition. Although there will be prizes for award winners\, this event also brings value in its skill-building\, knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities. \nThe best hackathon teams come with a diverse set of strengths and experiences. If you are a Dalhousie student\, regardless of your faculty or program\, you can sign up as an individual for free on our linked Eventbrite page! At the event registration desk\, you can share your team preferences and will be placed in a team of 4-6 people before hacking begins. \nWhat exactly will you be “Hacking”? \nThe interest in ocean-based energy (also known as marine-based energy) is rising! Ocean-based energy refers to various forms of renewable energy powered by the ocean such as tidal\, wave\, and thermal. \nTo harness the power of the ocean\, there is much more to consider than just the capabilities of technology and logistics of implementation. The ocean is a home to nature\, beloved playground\, means of living\, and so much more. This is why we’re gathering students to “hack” complex cornerstones of ocean-based energy and building a future with sustainable ocean-based energy development. Your team will choose a single\, specific challenge (TBA) surrounding ocean-based energy to tackle. A more detailed agenda will be shared closer to the event. \nYour mind and voice can create real impact by exploring how ocean-based energy projects might be developed and implemented in a manner that is inclusive\, sustainable\, and safe. \nEvent Agenda: \nSeptember 20: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Hackathon activities \nSeptember 21: 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Hackathon activities
