SUMMARY:Shipping Your First Indie Game: Lessons From Indie Founders
DESCRIPTION:In this panel discussion\, local indie founders share real lessons on starting a studio\, funding your first game\, and shipping successfully. \n\n\n\n\nThinking about starting your own game studio? Join an honest\, behind-the-scenes panel discussion with experienced indie founders as they break down what it really takes to go from early idea to shipped game. \nThis panel will explore the realities of launching a studio before you incorporate\, including how to find your niche\, how to align expectations with your team\, and how much runway you actually need. It will also walk through Business 101 fundamentals: incorporation\, equity splits\, shareholder agreements\, trademarks\, and defining roles. \nFrom there\, they will dig into how to get started on your first indie project\, from testing ideas\, validating your market\, choosing genre and platform\, managing scope\, to surviving the “last 10%” that often makes or breaks an indie project. \nYou’ll also learn practical strategies for building an audience\, gaining Steam wishlists\, running a Kickstarter campaign\, deciding when to start marketing\, and navigating what happens if your first launch doesn’t go as planned. \nThe event will close with actionable advice for developers starting today: how to stay lean\, ship smart\, and build momentum without overextending yourself. \nWhether you’re solo\, forming a small team\, or exploring your first indie idea\, this session is designed to give you clarity\, realism\, and optimism for the road ahead. \nShip something. Keep it small. Learn. Then ship again. \nDoors open at 6:00\, and the panel will kick off at 6:30!

SUMMARY:Workshop: ESG for Business Resilience: Thriving in Periods of Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:ESG for Business Resilience: Thriving in Periods of Uncertainty is a practical\, interactive training program designed to help small and medium sized enterprises in Nova Scotia strengthen their competitiveness and resilience in an increasingly volatile global environment. As trade conditions shift\, tariffs remain uncertain\, and sustainability expectations vary across markets\, this program focuses on how the integration of environmental\, social\, and governance (ESG) principles can be applied as a strategic business tool – grounded in risk management\, operational efficiency\, and long-term value creation.\n\nParticipants will learn how ESG-aligned practices can support business continuity\, unlock new opportunities\, improve productivity\, attract capital\, and support market expansion locally\, nationally\, and globally. The program will show how a “business-first” approach to sustainability can help companies create value\, open doors to new partnerships and export opportunities\, and position businesses to succeed in an increasingly sustainability focused marketplace.\n\nThe training also builds workforce capacity by teaching participants how to identify\, measure\, and clearly communicate key non-financial sustainability metrics that matter to investors\, customers\, and supply chain partners. Participants will gain an understanding of the evolving local and global regulatory landscape\, how public policy is shaping business expectations\, and how transparent reporting builds credibility and trust with investors\, customers\, and other stakeholders.\n\nIn addition\, the program focuses on risk mitigation and resilience. Participants will learn how to proactively manage ESG-related risks such as supply chain disruption\, regulatory change\, climate related impacts\, and geopolitical uncertainty. By developing a structured ESG approach\, businesses will be better equipped to improve operational efficiency\, reduce exposure to external shocks\, and build long term resilience in a volatile and uncertain global environment.\n  \n\nMEET YOUR FACILITATOR\nNancy Foran\, FCPA\, FCMA\, C. This presentation introduces how AI agents can be used to simulate human behavior by explicitly modeling these characteristics. Such AI-driven agents can represent different types of people—customers\, workers\, managers\, or citizens—and be used to explore a wide range of tasks\, including pricing and inventory scenarios\, daily activity patterns\, business decision-making\, customer questionnaires\, and other decision-driven processes. By simulating populations of diverse AI agents\, we can better understand how individual behaviors give rise to collective outcomes across many application domains. \nBio: Dr. Xichen Zhang is an Assistant Professor at the Sobey School of Business\, Saint Mary’s University\, and an adjunct professor with the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity\, as well as at the University of New Brunswick and Dalhousie University. He earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of New Brunswick. His research focuses on cybersecurity\, business analytics\, large language models (LLMs)\, and AI agents\, applying machine learning and generative AI to detect digital threats\, analyze online behavior\, and support trustworthy decision-making. He has received funding from SSHRC and NSERC and collaborates with industry and public partners on practical AI-driven solutions. \nReza(Enayat) Rajabi \n\n\n\n\n\nAgentic AI and Knowledge Graphs \nDescription: A Knowledge Graph (KG) serves as the semantic skeleton of a Digital Twin\, mapping complex business logic into a machine-readable “living model.” Unlike static databases\, a KG defines the intent and constraints of your operations—linking assets\, processes\, and people through their real-world relationships. For Agentic AI\, this is the ultimate operating manual. It allows agents to simulate “what-if” scenarios by traversing the graph to see how a change in one node (e.g.\, a supplier failure) cascades through the entire logic chain. By grounding agents in this Digital Twin\, companies ensure that AI actions remain context-aware\, compliant\, and synchronized with the actual state of the business. \nBio: Reza(Enayat) Rajabi is an Associate Professor of Business Analytics at Cape Breton University and a knowledge scientist. He has secured various research grants from NSERC\, Mitacs\, IRAP\, and Research Nova Scotia in context of AI and Knowledge graphs. \n\n\n\n\nNOTE: If you are unable to attend any of our events please take a minute and cancel your ticket. This allows our team to better prepare for every event. \nBy attending this event\, you agree to be photographed and/or filmed and give permission to Volta and Springboard Atlantic to use your image in promotional and/or marketing materials. \n\n\n\nRead less
