Building Intercultural Competence Workshop

As Nova Scotia becomes more culturally diverse, we all need to learn how to welcome and work with immigrants and build a better community together. This one-day, interactive workshop is open to organizations, service providers, educators, and community volunteers. We also deliver workshops tailored to individual organizations. There is no fee. To maintain health and safety at this time, these workshops will take place online via Zoom. The maximum number of participants is 16 – please be sure to register early! In this full-day workshop, you will: - Increase your understanding of settlement and integration issues - Explore practical ways to welcome and support new immigrants - Develop intercultural relationship-building skills for working with new immigrants REGISTER

Come join us for our Summer Social (Socially-Distanced Edition) We miss your faces and decided to put together a social-distance picnic! Feel free to chat about whatever you want, WordPress-related or not. There is no set agenda. Come at any point during the 2 hours. WHERE WE'LL MEET Near North Park/Cunard Side baseball diamond (south of Cunard Roundabout). See photo. RULES: Now, as always, our meetup is a place to be respectful and welcoming to EVERYONE. Actionable EDI: Beyond the Basics

The concepts of diversity and inclusion have been discussed and debated for quite some time, however many organizations are still struggling to achieve equity, inclusion and harmonious environments. While there are many discussions around EDI, there is a lack of structural support in implementing strategies to actually change the landscape of our workplaces. Our new certificate program moves learners from knowledge to implementation – providing a framework for implementing EDI strategies. The Pitch Competition is an excellent opportunity to practice your three-minute pitch, fine-tune your deck, and get feedback from peers and industry experts. You will gain valuable experience presenting to investors, and potential early adopters. Plus, you never know who may be tuning in to watch! Each competition will have a judging panel, comprised of entrepreneurs and community leaders. Judges will focus on the quality and content of the presentation, not the viability of the business. Spark Nova Scotia Training Begins

All applicants are welcome to participate in the first four Spark Training Program modules: “Identifying and Managing the Risks in a New Business”; “Introduction to the Business Model Canvas”; “Finance: What Young Companies Need to Know”; and "Storytelling and Presenting." These modules will offer business-building skills and support to help participants accelerate the development of their businesses. The annual Spark Nova Scotia startup competition, which offers winners up to $50,000 of non-dilutive funding, will hold its training seminars online again this year and has moved the registration deadline to August 30. Entrepreneurs will still be able to join the training after the formal deadline and can apply to participate in Spark’s pitch competition until October 4. The first training session will be held August 16 -- before the deadline to register. The training will cover topics such as finance, risk management and pitching skills. Then, after the pitch competition, judges will award $375,000 in grants, divided among the competitors as they see fit. The winners will also receive a $10,000 credit for Amazon Web Services.
