DeepSense Discovery Session – AIS DATA

Description Join us for our inaugural DeepSense Discovery Session. Attend this informative session in-person or online to hear from Casey Hilliard, Data Manager, Meridian, about Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, the ship tracking system. Learn how AIS data has been used to support vessel transportation, some challenges in using AIS data and potential uses of AIS data. *DeepSense Discovery Sessions provide students from any academic institution with an interest in data science and the ocean sector to learn more about the ocean economy, ocean data, participate in challenges presented by ocean-related companies, and explore the potential of a career in ocean data. Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) 101

The Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy leverages defence and major Canadian Coast Guard procurement to create jobs and economic growth in Canada. The ITB Policy encourages companies to establish or grow their presence in Canada, strengthen Canadian supply chains and develop Canadian Key Industrial Capabilities. The ITB Policy is making an impact from coast to coast. Investments are supporting the manufacturing and marine sectors, helping scale up small and medium sized businesses, enhancing investments across Canada that align with regional strengths and supporting exports and innovation. The purpose of this session is to provide information on what the ITB Policy is and how Canadian firms have been successful in accessing supply chain opportunities associated with the defence and major Canadian Coast Guard procurement. The presentation will have a particular focus on ITB Policy features which motivate investments in innovation; and which support the growth of small and medium businesses in Canada. TecSocial: Lessons in Building and Then Selling a Business

About this Event The Province of Nova Scotia is teaming with the School of Information Management and the Rowe School of Business (Dalhousie University Faculty of Management) to host its fourth annual Open Data Contest on March 7th-8th, 2020 in conjunction with International Open Data Day. The contest will take place from 8:30 AM Saturday, March 7th until approximately 4:30 PM Sunday, March 8th.
