SUMMARY:The Power of Intentional Networking to Access Talent: Utilizing Connector Programs to Fill Labour Gaps
DESCRIPTION:Topic: The Power of Intentional Networking to Access Talent: Utilizing Connector Programs to Fill Labour Gaps \nDescription \n\nIn today’s tightening labour market\, accessing skilled talent is a key factor in helping businesses thrive. The Conference Board of Canada predicts that the immigrant talent pool will be the main source of net labour force growth in Canada\, yet it can be difficult to tap into. Within the labour pool itself\, immigrants experience many barriers to finding meaningful work in their industry. \nThe award-winning Halifax Connector Program helps address challenges for both employers and immigrants. It is an intentional networking program that puts immigrants directly in touch with local businesspeople\, civil servants\, and community leaders – people who are in the habit of making introductions and connecting others to opportunities. Immigrants quickly build their professional network while employers meet new skilled talent. It’s a win-win. \nThe Connector Program model has been replicated in over 30 communities in Canada and internationally. This webinar will showcase three business stories of connecting and hiring immigrant talent\, and the importance of building a welcoming\, diverse\, and inclusive workforce. \nPanellists\n\n\nMike Johnston – Founder and CEO\, REDspace\nMaayan Harel – Program Manager\, Aerospace and Defence\, Enginuity Inc.\nVinita Savani – Regional President\, Atlantic Canada\, RBC\n\nModerator \n\nAlida Campbell – National Connector Program Manager\, Halifax Partnership\n\nThis discussion is organized in collaboration with the National Connector Program at the Halifax Partnership\, and is part of the Employer Perspectives webinar series brought to you by the Immigrant Employment Councils of Canada (IECC) and New Canadians TV Network. \nNote: You can ask questions to our guest speaker(s) live during the session. You can also send your queries to us beforehand at contact@newcanadians.tv or through the registration form below. \nTime: Jul 20\, 2022 01:30 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)

SUMMARY:Integrating different cultures in the workplace (Host: YT)
DESCRIPTION:Integrating different cultures in the workplace (Host: YT)\nAugust 11th\, 1-2 EST / 2-3 ADT \nThe pandemic has transformed business operations and employee expectations. With 77% of Canadians desiring flexibility to work in the office and remotely\, the hybrid workplace model is becoming the “new normal.” The hybrid model has allowed organizations to access global talent and support the creation of broadly diverse teams that bring together different skill sets\, experiences and ideas\, and create opportunities to learn and grow from different cultures and wisdoms. \nHybrid is the new normal\, and an opportunity to rethink and remake organizational culture together. A recent HP Canada survey found that over a third of Canadian employees believe a hybrid work model is the most beneficial for advancing marginalized groups. Yet the increasing multicultural workforce comes with the challenge of integrating different cultures and wisdom in the workplace. While the importance of workplace culture is growing\, and a Deloitte survey found that 94% of executives and 88% of employees believe a distinct workplace culture is important to business success\, 81% of employees believe their managers need to be better trained to effectively manage a hybrid workplace team. In the post-secondary world\, some institutes’ anti-discrimination policies have required learning modules related to cultural diversity\, and created opportunities for intercultural learning though events and celebrations. \nWhat is clear is that as employers\, post-secondary institutes\, non-profits\, and the people that work at and with them\, we all have a role to play in better understanding and engaging people from different cultural backgrounds to build a better future of work. To do this\, organizations need to develop processes and practices that better support cultural diversity and understanding across all areas and functions of an organization or community. \nJoin leaders as they share their personal and organizational initiatives\, experiences and learnings in integrating different cultures in the workplace: \n\nRuby Latif\, Senior Manager\, Ernst & Young\n\nIntroduced by Florence Rousseau\, Director\, Marketing & Communications\, Magnet\, and moderated by Chantal Brine\, CEO\, EnPoint\, we invite you to the next installment of the Building Future Ready Communities: Virtual Tour series for community building and an inspirational panel discussion and Q&A! \nIf you are unable to join us live\, sign-up anyways and you’ll receive instructions on how to access the recording afterwards. \nRegister here! \nAbout the panelists:\nRuby Latif\, Senior Manager\, Ernst & Young \nRuby Latif\, BA\, BAH\, MA\, DSocSCI (ABD)\, is a Senior Manager in EY’s People Advisory Services practice. It is our ongoing priority to ensure participation amongst the broader\, more diverse business community. As part of our Diversity\, Equity\, Accessibility\, and Inclusion (EDAI) action initiative\, we plan to obtain 100 new members from underrepresented groups by providing a 1-year complimentary membership to those who qualify! \nJoin us for a virtual information session with Josh Creighton\, our Community Engagement Specialist\, to learn more about how you can leverage your Chamber membership to save money\, gain exposure\, make connections\, and drive change.

SUMMARY:An Equitable Rebound for Indigenous People - Nova Scotia
DESCRIPTION:Event Information\n\nCOVID-19 has turned work life upside down. The past two years have not been kind\, and work situations have changed for almost everyone. We all have our own work stories\, including ups and downs\, work-from-home struggles\, and even the halting of businesses and loss of jobs. There are countless ways in which each of our work journeys may not have gone as expected. \nJoin ICTC on August 17th at 10:30 am and connect with fellow Indigenous community members as we discuss overcoming work barriers and making a professional rebound. \nThis meetup is for Indigenous people to share experiences over the last two years\, discuss needs and challenges\, and hear about career advancement and growth pathways. \n*A $20 Amazon gift card will be provided as an honorarium to participants who actively engage in this event’s discussion. \nLet’s kick off a more equitable rebound!\nWhat to expect: An open session where participants can propose topics they are interested in and discuss them with other people in similar situations. We will also invite community partners (such as organizations serving Indigenous people) who may have advice or resources for participants. \nLocation: Volta – 1505 Barrington Street\, Unit 100\, Halifax\, NS\, B3J 3K5\, Canada \nOur thanks to attendees: The event is catered (brunch is on us!)\, and a raffle will take place for all participants. We also will maintain a list of anyone who is interested in hearing about how the research progresses and share any articles about the research with everyone. Identities will not be shared. \nWho is involved? The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) is a non-profit\, non-government organization. We do public interest research and we offer training and subsidy programs for people interested in careers in technology. \nCommunity Partners: Thank you to Tribe Network\, One North End\, and Volta for helping make this meetup a success. \nIf you are a university student\, we offer co-op funding for tech-related placements. \nIf you are a newcomer to Canada\, we offer pre- and post-arrival programs for starting or continuing a career in technology. \n
