SUMMARY:How to Practice Allyship in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Description\nAllyship is not a destination\, it’s also not a checklist. It’s big and small choices you make every day to understand how oppression benefits some and steals from others. In this webinar\, racial equity consultant Camille Dundas outlines how we each can commit to dismantling systems of oppression and what is required of anyone striving to practice allyship in the workplace. \nTime\nOct 27\, 2022 12:30 PM in Halifax \n\n\n\nSpeakers\nCamille Dundas\nInstructor @Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development \nCamille Dundas is the Editor-in-Chief of Canada’s largest Black online magazine ByBlacks.com. She has led her team to win three national ethnic media awards and a commendation from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Camille was also named among the top 100 Black Canadian Women Accomplished Women by CIBWE in 2022. Her relentless passion for Black history and dedication to justice has fueled Camille’s second career as a racial equity educator\, helping some of the largest organizations in the world such as Google and KMPG International understand how to actively build anti-racist workplaces. Camille’s approach to education is anchored in a historical understanding of systemic racism and how that has impacted today’s corporate culture\, and her delivery is deeply rooted in her own lived experience as a Black woman in the workplace.

SUMMARY:Women in Leadership 2022
DESCRIPTION:Elevating the Role of Women in the Public Sector\nWomen have made a tremendous impact in the government; advocating for change\, influencing policy and law and paving the way for future generations. Despite the continuous efforts made\, women remain underrepresented within the public sector landscape. Women are still faced with challenges and barriers that only increase if they are a woman of colour\, are part of the LGBTQ2+ community or have disabilities. There is a significant disparity of women in leadership roles within both public and private sectors. This is due to longstanding stereotypes and biases\, which impact women from the time they are young girls. Systemic change is required to overcome and shift the perception surrounding women’s leadership. \nStatistics show that having women in positions of leadership directly influences and improves the socio-economic landscape for all. It is reported that there is a direct correlation between women leaders in government and the creation and implementation of more inclusive and equitable policies both internally and within our communities. \nIn this fifth segment of Public Sector Network’s Women in Leadership series 2022\, we will explore key factors that continue to hinder or discourage women leaders\, and how we can address and overcome them. We will discuss the importance of mentorship programs\, allyship and leadership development. We will examine what it takes to make a great leader and how to challenge common barriers. Most importantly\, we will highlight the strategies needed to quash what is problematic within our system and what we can all do to pave the road for the next generation of women wanting to pursue a leadership role.

SUMMARY:ESG Basics for SMEs – Maintaining a competitive edge and export-readiness
DESCRIPTION:This is an introductory ESG (environmental\, social and governance) workshop that will engage participants in learning how ESG affects exporting\, investment attraction\, and bottom line risks and opportunities. \nToday’s value chains are global\, highly complex and multi-tiered integrated systems\, comprised of various organizations\, people\, activities\, and resources that may span multiple geographies and jurisdictions. Their complexity often leads to increased exposure to risk (i.e. regulatory\, geopolitical\, reputational\, resource availability\, natural disasters\, and more)\, while also providing tremendous opportunities. In support of these issues\, there has emerged a strong business case for public and private companies alike to integrate environmental\, social and governance (ESG) factors into the core of their strategy and decision making. \nParticipants will be engaged to \n\nDevelop a foundational understanding of ESG\nLearn about how ESG factors can influence their business performance\nConsider business case factors for SMEs in the context of risk and opportunity\n\nThis workshop is organized by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Renewables and Nova Scotia Business Incorporated with support from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Net Zero Atlantic.
