DESCRIPTION:This session provides an overview of Ansys Fluent and teaches participants how to use it to solve CFD problems. \nWith advancements in computers and new generations of CPUs and GPUs\, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is becoming an indispensable tool in many fields. Researchers and industrial design engineers are using CFD to predict and understand complex fluid flow and heat transfer problems\, and to verify and optimize designs. Among open-source and commercial CFD packages\, Ansys Fluent is one of the most popular commercial tools. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn how to set up a small problem and solve it in Ansys Fluent on your personal computer. The instructor will then demonstrate how to design and solve a large problem using a supercomputing cluster. \nNo prior knowledge of Ansys Fluent is required. Participants must have a personal computer with administrative privileges to download software in order to do the exercise. \nThis session will be delivered online. \nParticipants must register using their institutional / organizational email address (not a personal email\, ie. gmail). \nConnections details and preparation information will be shared prior to the session.

This event will be an adventure into the configuration of WooCommerce as well as some optimization tips. There will be tips and lessons learned from building numerous stores including a primer on how I configure WooCommerce for my Printful stores. \nBio: \nEric Leuthardt walks the line between art and technology and does it with a New York no-nonsense approach. \nProgramming since the mid-80s and web designing since the mid-90s\, he officially began working in the IT industry in 1995. Two Master’s degrees later (one in Computer Information Systems and one an MBA in Technology Management)\, Eric launched his own tech company and specializes in IT security and supporting small businesses. He also enjoys teaching classes and speaking to groups. \nLeveraging his undergrad degree in Video and Music Production moonlighting as a DJ for fifteen years\, he was at home both on the radio and performing at events. When he transferred his talent into photography\, he knew he had found his niche. A published photographer teaching and lecturing since 2008\, he reaches students locally in hands-on classes and events and globally through webinars and his photography club. \nEric manages several Meetup groups\, including DFW WordPress Group\, DFW WordPress Ninjas\, and the Eric Leuthardt Photography Club. Along with running his own groups\, he is very active in local groups and always looking to expand his areas of expertise. \nWhile he often uses the phrase “I know a guy”\, Eric actually is “The Guy”.

SUMMARY:Ocean of Data Challenge: Coastal Communities and Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:COVE and DeepSense with special guest Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) are hosting the second Ocean Data Challenge. This free event will span two evenings and begins on February 8th (6 pm) with an introduction to the Challenge\, presentations from experts\, and the chance to ask questions to help idea exploration. The Challenge concludes one week later\, on February 15th with presentations from participants to our panel of judges. \nThis challenge allows you to work at your own pace to explore ways to learn about ocean data\, meet others with the same interests and bring together unique skills to create a team. This is a fantastic way to show off your design\, programming or other talents. Not to mention more than $2\,000 in prizes! \nThe challenge is broken down into three Challenge Streams: Under the Water\, On the Water\, and Around the Water. Individuals and teams will be asked to choose one stream and provide interdisciplinary ideas for helping understand the coastal community impacts. Each stream can be used to explore different types of data\, for example: “Under the Water” can explore ocean compensation (pollutants\, algal blooms)\, “On the Water” can include storm surges and the water level rises and “Around the Water” can explore coastline erosion and flooding.

Participants must be 18+\, unemployed or underemployed*\, have a high school diploma\, GED certificate or a referral from a community organization\, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident\, and are a Nova Scotia resident. \nProfessional development\, industry networking opportunities\, and in-course support will also be offered as part of this 25-week technical skills training program. The hope is that this screening and discussion will encourage reflection and passionate collaboration between participants on the topic of bias in STEM. \nCoded Bias explores the fallout of MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini´s startling discovery that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces and women accurately\, and her journey to push for the first-ever legislation in the U.S. to govern against bias in the algorithms that impact us all. \nThis film is rated M for Mature Audience (17+) and is open to all. DESCRIPTION:The profession of External Audit and Internal Audit have numerous similarities and differences. However\, it is not always a simple transition to move effectively from one to the other. Many of these challenges relate to academic credentials and knowledge\, work experience\, ability to deal with change and ambiguity\, learning new standards and audit procedures\, working with a wide variety of systems\, soft skills\, and a different mindset with regards to independence. Learn how many have made the transition successfully and how some have not\, and why. The reality is that financial professionals account for a large portion of the skill base for internal audit groups. \nThe facilitators will use real life examples based on their extensive experience managing audit teams and highlighting large Internal Audit Shops with specific programs\, and how they recruited External Auditors to become Internal Auditors. They will outline what this process looks like\, training strategies\, and common pitfalls where it just did not work for some individuals.

DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be a hands-on introduction to the C programming language. \nPrerequisites: Familiarity with some other programming language \nA great deal of high-performance computing software is written in C\, but few universities offer courses in the language any more. If you have to work with “legacy code” written in C\, adding features\, porting to a new machine\, or patching errors\, or if you need to write user-defined functions for engineering packages such as Fluent\, then this workshop is for you. \nYou do need to have a laptop with a Mac\, Linux or Windows operating system (not a tablet\, Chromebook\, etc) on which you have administrative privileges\, as you will need to pre-load specific software packages. \nParticipants must register using their institutional / organizational email address (not a personal email\, ie. gmail) \nInstructions for how to join will be sent out one day prior to the start of the event.
