SUMMARY:Tracing Cyberattacks: Techniques for Extraction and Analysis of the Evidence
DESCRIPTION:Why cyberattacks are so difficult to trace back? They are usually made by smart hackers who finish the raid without a noticeable trace. Sometimes they get caught\, but most of the time they still run free. So\, what to do when the bad guys are trying to access corporate data? \nDuring this super intense session hosted by Beyond Trust\, the audience will learn how to establish informative monitoring that can alarm you if something goes wrong in your environment. They will be brought to the advanced level of monitoring the Windows operating system so that next time when something happens in their infrastructure\, they will be able to collect data traces correctly. Beyond Trust will review the signs and symptoms of your systems being attacked as well as demonstrate ways of detecting intrusion patterns. \nDuring the session Paula Januszkiewicz\, CEO and Founder of CQURE\, Microsoft MVP and RD\, Cybersecurity expert\, will demonstrate the most up-to-date attacks\, corresponding with techniques of discovery. It is going to be a super engaging session that showcases the best practices for information extraction. Participants will receive ready-to-launch instructions about how to extract information from various places in the operating system and monitoring solutions. \nAfter this session\, you will be able to evaluate your infrastructure for exploitable vulnerabilities and find out how to recover the evidence attackers leave behind. Extremely technical session!

SUMMARY:Key Steps of Must-Have PAM Capabilities to Secure Identities and Access
DESCRIPTION:Identity is the new perimeter— and privileged access management (PAM) is the keystone of modern identity and access security. \nThe reality of today’s threat landscape is that: \n\nThe attack surface continues to expand and evolve – As the traditional perimeter has dissolved\, the privileged threat surface has vastly expanded and grown more complex.\nPrivileges continue to proliferate and become exposed in new ways – Almost every attack today requires privilege for the initial exploit or to laterally move within a network—and privileges are everywhere.\nIdentities are increasing in number and complexity and coming under attack from more angles than ever before.\nAttackers are rapidly advancing in agility beyond just simple automation – While many breaches can still be prevented by simple security fundamentals\, machine Learning (M/L) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are changing the game\, vastly enhancing attacker toolsets and empowering human-operated attacks.\n\nJoin Beyond Trust to understand where to begin your PAM project\, how to progress to a better security posture\, and what business outcomes to expect. Raef will also explain the PAM basics that will mitigate most risks\, highlighting the most important features and capabilities of a complete PAM solution to help you strengthen your Identity Security and account for every plane of privilege.

SUMMARY:ACENET: Basics of Computers
DESCRIPTION:Most of us have experience using a computer\, whether for school\, work\, or entertainment\, but how many of us have actually had an expert teach us how to use it? This talk won’t teach you how to troubleshoot everything\, but will give you insight to how media\, programs and data are encoded and used by computers\, so you can make more sense of why computers behave the ways they do\, and solve some of your problems with greater efficiency and less frustration. We will provide an approachable overview of how a computer works\, by both looking at their history and breaking one down to explain individual components\, before highlighting some of the trade-offs to consider when buying a computer. We will provide practical\, simple\, and actionable advice on digital security and show you a few “pro tips” on how to make the most of your workstation\, phone\, or whatever device you happen to use. Whether you have a lot or a little experience using your digital technology\, if you want to learn how to use your devices more effectively\, this workshop is for you! \nThis session will be delivered online. \nParticipants must register using their institutional / organizational email address (not a personal email\, ie. gmail). \nConnections details for the session will be sent out prior to the session.

SUMMARY:Halihax Data Science Meetup
DESCRIPTION:📣 About The Speakers\nTim Speed \nCTO @ Modest Tree\nA software developer and for many years that’s pivoted primarily to focus machine learning and leading technology at Modest Tree. Most of my career has been in startups though I have a few years in big tech by working with LinkedIn on their learning platform; overall a large part of my experience has been focused on developing learning technology and supporting tools. \nLinkedIn\, Twitter (X) \nGordon Shotwell \nSenior Software Engineer @ Posit PBC\nGordon has built data science web applications for many years\, and currently works on the Shiny for Python team at posit. \nLinkedIn \n⏱️ Agenda For The Event\n6:00pm – Doors Open \nCome early to grab a beverage and socialize with others. \n6:30 pm – Presentations \n\nAn introduction to Modern Machine learning and it’s future\nHow does Shiny really work? Shiny is a web application framework for R and Python\, and has two special features. First\, Shiny uses a reactive computation graph to only render the parts of the UI which need to change in response to a user’s actions\, and second it infers that graph from your application. While you tell Shiny what to do\, you don’t tell it when to do it. This talk explains Shiny’s one weird trick to always infer the correct computation graph.\n\n7:30 pm – Socialize! \nSpend some time socializing with the speakers and others in the community.
