SUMMARY:Using Git Tools to Manage File Changes and Collaborate: Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:This is a two-part series to introduce participants to Git tools used for version control and collaborative development. \nVersion control is the practice of managing and sharing changes to documents\, programming code\, websites or any other files to keep track of what’s been changed\, by whom\, when and why. All previous versions of files are saved and you can even revert to a previous version. Git is a version control software. Git-portal sites\, like GitHub or GitLab\, offer many useful features to facilitate collaborative development. This beginner level session introduces you to Git. We will show you how to create a repository\, record changes to files\, explore and restore from the recorded history and how to resolve conflicts (when one member overwrites another’s changes). \nThis two-part series introduces participants to Git tools. The first session on December 1st focuses on version control. The second workshop on December 8th will explore using Git for collaborative development. \n

Utilizing specific questions\, the facilitator will guide attendees in sharing – from small (breakout room) group work – their experiences\, efforts and learning within their organizations. Common themes / issues / struggles will assist in prefacing upcoming sessions in terms of understanding the current state of D&I in the industry and help inform some content in creating a D&I vision for the future.

SUMMARY:Defining the "new normal" and designing the employee experience of the future\, today
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic has shocked the economy and transformed how organizations operate\, creating a “new normal” for institutes\, economic development agencies\, employees and job seekers. With the introduction of social distancing\, digitalization has seen tremendous growth; research by Mckinsey & Company reported that 80% of organizations interact with customers digitally\, three times more than before the pandemic. Furthermore\, several trends have emerged\, such as the need for upskilling/reskilling\, change in flexibility from location to time\, and shift from managing employee work experience to life experience\, i.e.\, the “employee experience”. \nThe global 2021 Employee Experience survey found that 92% of organizations prioritized employee experience enhancements over the next 3 years\, higher by 52% from before the pandemic; yet 79% of organizations reported that they have not yet arrived at their new workplace reality. From the employee perspective\, during the initial phase of the pandemic\, 72% of employees had confidence in leaders to protect employee health and wellbeing\, but that number had fallen to 57% as 52% of employees reported high to moderate anxiety. \nThe employee experience matters because it shapes an employee’s perception and dedication to an organization. Yet the current uncertain environment creates challenges for organizations to build a supportive employee experience and company culture\, and creates hurdles for employees and job seekers to not only excel in the new world of work\, but also take advantage of opportunities brought on by technological and market disruptions that create space for entrepreneurship and new job creation. \nJoin Ontario leaders as they share their personal and organizational initiatives\, experiences and learnings to define the “new normal” and design the employee experience of the future\, today! If you are unable to join us live\, sign-up anyways and you’ll receive instructions on how to access the recording.
