SUMMARY:Halihax Data Science Meetup
DESCRIPTION:📣 About The Speakers\nTim Speed \nCTO @ Modest Tree\nA software developer and for many years that’s pivoted primarily to focus machine learning and leading technology at Modest Tree. Most of my career has been in startups though I have a few years in big tech by working with LinkedIn on their learning platform; overall a large part of my experience has been focused on developing learning technology and supporting tools. \nLinkedIn\, Twitter (X) \nGordon Shotwell \nSenior Software Engineer @ Posit PBC\nGordon has built data science web applications for many years\, and currently works on the Shiny for Python team at posit. \nLinkedIn \n⏱️ Agenda For The Event\n6:00pm – Doors Open \nCome early to grab a beverage and socialize with others. \n6:30 pm – Presentations \n\nAn introduction to Modern Machine learning and it’s future\nHow does Shiny really work? Shiny is a web application framework for R and Python\, and has two special features. First\, Shiny uses a reactive computation graph to only render the parts of the UI which need to change in response to a user’s actions\, and second it infers that graph from your application. While you tell Shiny what to do\, you don’t tell it when to do it. This talk explains Shiny’s one weird trick to always infer the correct computation graph.\n\n7:30 pm – Socialize! \nSpend some time socializing with the speakers and others in the community.

SUMMARY:BUSINESS AFTER HOURS: Chain Yard Cider
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate International Networking week and join us for an evening of networking with Chain Yard Cider!\n \n\nAbout Chain Yard Cider: \nChain Yard Urban Cidery started in 2017\, driven by a group of partners with a shared passion for well-crafted\, quality cider. Hailing from backgrounds in tourism\, hospitality\, and cider making\, their combined experience fuelled the establishment of the first cidery in Halifax. A strategic choice led them to set up shop in Halifax’s hip North End\, where they transformed a former hair salon/café into a production facility and taproom. \nChain Yard produces awesome\, approachable\, unique and traditional ciders made from 100% Nova Scotia apples. Embracing a wine-making approach\, the cidery deliberately ferments their ciders slowly and at a cool temperature to preserve the nuanced flavors of the apples. Apples are sourced from small and large producers in the Annapolis Valley\, ensuring a steady supply of juice throughout the year. The cidermaker draws fresh inspiration from each batch of juice\, resulting in a dynamic selection of seasonal products alongside core ciders. \nThe taproom at Chain Yard buzzes with a lively community energy\, serving lunch\, dinner\, and late-night beverages daily. A seasonal menu is a highlight\, featuring renowned fried chicken dishes\, diverse vegan options\, and earning praise as the city’s top spot for gluten-free offerings. \n\nDate and Time\n\nTuesday February 6\n4:30PM – 6:30PM \n\n\n\nLocation\n2606 Agricola Street\nHalifax\, Nova Scotia B3K4C8 \n\n\nFees/Admission\nFree for Members and Guests\n**Please note: your registration gives Halifax Chamber of Commerce permission to use the photographs taken during the event for any legal use.
