Canada

Employment grew at a strong pace in May, up from the prior month by 289,600 jobs. The growth occurred in both full time and part time positions.

The rate of unemployment rose sharply, going from 13.0% to 13.7%, reaching its highest point since the survey began in 1976.

The goods producing sector added jobs (+164,700), while the services producing sector saw growth of 124,900 jobs.

Labour Force: 19,093,700 (+490,500)
Employment: 16,474,500 (+289,600)

Employment grew at a strong pace in May, up from the prior month by 38,000 jobs. The growth occurred in both full time and part time positions.

The rate of unemployment rose sharply, going from 13.1% to 13.9%, reaching its highest point since June 1997.

The goods producing sector added jobs (+7,100), while the services producing sector saw growth of 31,000 jobs.

Labour Force: 1,164,200 (+54,100)
Employment: 1,002,500 (+38,000)
